The Door Keeper by Hurri Cosmo

Length: Approximately 140 pages
Although they've been labeled as a group of misfits, Minneapolis' 77th police precinct has plenty of talent. The problem is, it's paranormal talent and no one's supposed to know about it.
Nick keeps his officers busy chasing after all the creepy crawly things that tend to go "bump" in the night, thus insuring the twin cities are safe and totally unaware that other realms even exist. Nick is the Door Keeper and his job as the precinct’s captain is to maintain order in what would otherwise be chaos.
When said chaos rears its ugly head in the form of a ferocious and brutal vampire, the last thing Nick needs is to deal with a new partner, even if that new partner is as sexy as Arrain.
Nick worked for the 77th and was used to unusual beings and things - but as the book opens we get an insight into his feelings about what he calls a shadow man - someone who shows up at every murder scene that Nick's investigating. And Nick feels the man is getting closer with every new case.
The presence was very aware of Nick, who felt a physical pull to the being every time he knew he was around.
"You beg so nicely...I can't wait to sink into you, to claim you. Be patient, my sweet."
Nick is a relatively good detective and like anyone who works at the 77th, he has abilities of his own. That comes in handy when he meets Chad, a young man who comes into the police station to report that his mother is missing. When Nick spends that same night looking for the people Chad showed him images for he finally bumps into the shadow man, Arrain. Unfortunately his meeting with Arrain was nothing like the sexy fantasies he'd been having about the man.
Walking away was no longer an option. He needed to run.
There were a few niggles I had with this book. Firstly I wanted to know if it was a series because there was so much information, especially in the beginning, that made me wonder what on earth I had missed. Quite often, if that happens in a book, I keep reading and things sort themselves out. But in this book there were still a number of unresolved issues by the time I got to the end of it. That would suggest this is going to be book one of a series - after all you can't go leaving Chad wondering around the different realms. But even apart from the story line left unresolved, I still got the end of the book with more questions than answers.
Still it was a good story. At least we found out who the murderer was, and why Nick was living the way he was. I got a bit annoyed that Nick seemed to have a real age problem, mentioning it once was fine enough, but he kept having these thoughts over and over again, which got a bit old. Lol. I also think we as readers should have been told more about Hunters, and who Arrain was - we are told he's on the Council but we don't know much more about him except that he was taller than Nick, younger and hot looking.
Despite having heaps of questions, that will probably remain unanswered, unless the author is planning another book with these characters, it was still a good read. Be prepared to be thrown into the action head first and it will take you on one hell of a ride.
Meet Hurri Cosmo
Hurri Cosmo lives in Minnesota where she holds tight to the idea that there, where it’s cold a good part of the year, she won’t age as fast. Yep, she avoids the truth as much as she avoids mirrors. But one of the reasons she loves writing is reality doesn’t always offer up a “happily ever after” and being able to take control of that is a powerful lure. Being a happy ending junkie, writing just makes them easier to find. Oh, she doesn’t mind “real life” and she does try to at least keep it in mind when she writes her stories, but she truly loves creating a wonderful couple, knowing they will fall in love and have their HEA. Every - single - time. And, of course, that is exactly the reason she loves reading this genre, too. Give her a glass of red wine, some dark chocolate, and her computer, whether she is reading or writing, and she will entertain herself for hours. The fact she actually gets paid to do it is Snickers bars on the frosting on the cake.
