Embracing his Syn by A.E. Via
Rating ~ 5 Stars
Sergeant Corbin 'Syn' Sydney had dedicated his life to becoming the best detective. So when he heard there was an opening on the notorious Atlanta Narcotics Task Force, he jumped at the chance. But, what he wasn't ready for was realizing just how lonely he’d made himself, when he observed the loving and dedicated relationship between the two men he served under: Lieutenant Cashel ‘God’ Godfrey and Lieutenant Leonidis Day.
Syn prepared himself to accept his lonely fate until he walked into a small pub and met the long-haired, tattooed bartender, Furious Barkley. Before Syn can even understand why, he’s overcome with feelings he barely recognizes: passion, yearning, craving. And if the dark, lustful gazes are anything to go by, Furious might be feeling the same things for him.
Just two thing needs to happen before Syn and Furi can give each other what’s been missing from their lives for so long... Syn needs to find the evidence that proves Furi’s innocence of murder, as well as protect him from a past that refuses to let go.
God, Day, Ronowski, and Johnson are still as entertaining as ever...
You'll swoon over God's massive take-charge attitude...
You'll laugh hysterically at Day's never-ending wit...
You'll fall in love with Furious' mysterious, sexy demeanor...
You'll embrace Syn...
Disclaimer: The main characters of this book DO NOT participate in polygamous sexual pairings.
Liza’s Quick Bite
This is the second book in the Nothing Special series and after I had enjoyed God and Day so much, reading about Syn and Furi was a given. Syn is new to the area, gets a 'more than he bargained for' test for his new employment, working on God and Day's task force. A rough day leads him to a bar just across the road from where Syn lives and there he meets Furi, who is working as a barman for his uncle.
Two guys, instant attraction and a vacant bathroom - the ending is predictable. Or at least it might be if this delicious book was written by anyone else. I loved Syn's possessiveness and urge to protect, I loved Furi's vulnerability and his desire to do things for himself. The sex between the two men was explosive, but their relationship was everything I long for in my life. Furi's hurt made me cry, Syn's confusion about love made me smile. Believe me, even if you haven't read God and Day's story, you should read this. It's standalone and it will take you on a roller coaster ride of good reading.
Apollo’s Curse by Brad Vance
Rating ~ 5 Stars
All Dane Gale ever wanted was to be a successful writer. After a few sessions with his new friends Rose and Sherry at a romance book club, well, the more romances they read, the more they’re convinced they can do better. And do they ever! They join their creative forces to become “Pamela Clarice,” self-published romance novelist. When they look for a cover model for their first book, Dane sees the photos that will change his life.
Paul Musegetes is the world’s most popular romance cover model, and the most secretive. Dane soon finds himself obsessed with this supernaturally handsome man, and when he meets Paul at the Romance Writers’ Ball on the Summer Solstice, he and Paul connect for one night of passion…
After that night, Dane's a writing machine. He can’t stop writing romances, and every story he touches turns to gold. But he also finds that he can’t write anything but romances. And soon he's spending every waking moment of every day writing another after another...
Then Dane finds out that this Midas touch has a heavy price. When the year is over, he’ll never write again. Not a romance, not a serious novel. Nothing. Not even a grocery list. And that leaves him with only one option – find Paul, and get him to break the curse. But before he can do that, he’ll have to track down Paul’s equally mysterious photographer, Jackson da Vinci…
Mark’s Quick Bite
Have you ever opened a book and been completely broadsided by it in a positive way? Well, this definitely was the case for me when I started to read Apollo’s Curse by Brad Vance.
It was seriously not what I was expecting in any shape or form, especially going by the cover (more about that later), but it caught my interest from the word go, drew me in deeper and deeper, until I couldn’t put my Kindle aside for five minutes. I was addicted to this book, a magical read that took me to romantic places, introduced me to romantic characters and sent me on a journey of human caring and love.
The writing is concise, dialogues are entertaining, realistic and seriously funny at times, the story develops at a nice pace and always leads the reader on. When I think there is absolutely no erotica or steamy sex in this book at all, it just goes to show that a romance doesn’t need this if the writing and the story are heartfelt, has something interesting to say and brings across a message of love and caring. The ending for me was just perfect!
Fire Balls (Balls to The Wall #2) by Tara Lain
Rating ~ 5 Stars
A passionate artist, a handsome firefighter, can the sex get any hotter?
Artist Rodney Mansfield is small and flamboyant...and a black belt in karate. Too bad the work of art he really wants is firefighter Hunter Fallon. The gorgeous "straight gay" guy could never want the Runtback of Notre Dame, so when Rodney's handsome surfer friend develops an unexpected passion for the beautiful firefighter, Rodney does what's best for everyone and helps Jerry land his man. And if that wasn't enough to kill his chances, embarrassing Hunter by rescuing him from a firehouse bully seals the deal.
Hunter hates gay guys like Rodney...doesn't he? Then why can't he get his mind off the powerful pipsqueak's face...and hands off his body? Isn't it time for him to admit he's not such an alpha male after all, and that he's the property of the artist?
Macky’s Quick Bite
Part of Tara's 'Balls to the Wall' series, Rodney and Hunter's story reminds me of the film "Roxanne" the based on Cyrano De Bergerac ). Tiny in stature but fierce and Uber flamboyant Rodney (I LOVE him) is an artist who paints nudes, and he's totally smitten with big, gorgeous Hunter: a gay fireman who is out, but stays under the radar because of his 'macho' career. Obviously Rodney is out and proud but feeling Hunter wouldn't want to be with someone like him he selflessly helps his laid back, surfer dude friend Jerry—who also has the hots for Hunter—to get together with the hunky fireman. Jerry, who is really lovable but kind of naive, inadvertently gets Hunter to pose for Rodney and...well I'll leave the rest to your imagination, but let's just say from then on sparks fly! I really love this lighter, feel good romance. It's a great opposites attract story featuring Tara's trademark beautiful boys. Hunter and Rodney are on fire together and their love story is smoking - literally!
