When Sex Isn’t Just About Sex

By Shae Connor

Thanks to the Sinfully team for having me today!

Writing a story about a three-way relationship is a challenge in many ways. You have to find the right balance between characters, make sure everyone gets sufficient “screen time,” and still deal with the hiccups and misunderstandings that can happen with any romance. Navigating threesome sex is also big a challenge, especially when it’s M/M/M, with an added layer of pronoun difficulty.

In Wayward Son, there’s an added wrinkle to the menage: Mikey, the main character, is a near-virgin. The son of a preacher, Mikey repressed his sexuality for years until finally coming out in his early 20s. He’s dated and “fooled around” some, and he’s watched a lot of porn and done some exploring of his own body, but he’s never really had sex with another person. Much less two.

When Mikey first goes to bed with Jimmy and Cory, his struggles aren’t just about their relationship, or even about the logistics of having three-way sex. He’s also dealing with knowing that he’s with two very experienced men—and he’s got a big case of nerves going on as a result. In this excerpt, Jimmy and Cory do their best to soothe him, but it still takes him a while to relax into it…

Mikey’s world shifted as Jimmy lowered him to the mattress, following him down to cover Mikey’s body with his own, never breaking their kiss. Mikey arched into Jimmy’s hardness, muscles and cock, and by the time Jimmy did end the kiss, Mikey was about to vibrate right out of his skin. The kissing and touching he’d done with Cory and Jimmy over the past few weeks felt like nothing compared to this. He wanted to come right that second but never wanted this to end. Frustration warred with arousal until he thought he’d scream from it.

“This is your night, baby,” Jimmy was saying when Mikey could focus again. Jimmy’s gaze was on Cory, who still sat next to them. “What do you want?”

Cory turned his head to pierce Mikey with his gaze. “I wanna watch you fuck Mikey. And then I want you to watch me.”

Mikey’s eyelids fell shut, and he shuddered once, head to toe. Oh God. Talk about zero to sixty.

The mattress shifted, and Mikey pried his eyelids open to see Jimmy hovering above him. “Are you ready for that?”

Mikey didn’t know, but he sure as hell hoped so. He squeezed his eyes shut and nodded, and Jimmy chuckled.

“I’m not gonna believe you until you can look at me and tell me.”

Shit. Ask for the world, why don’t you? Steeling himself, Mikey forced his eyes to open and his lips to part. “Yeah,” he rasped. “I’m ready.”

“Not yet,” Jimmy said, the words sounding like a vow. “But you will be.”

He closed the distance between them and took Mikey’s mouth again. Took was the only way to describe it. Mikey whimpered under the onslaught. He’d kissed Jimmy and Cory quite a bit, and a few guys and girls before them, but never before had he felt like he’d handed over every bit of control. Jimmy’s tongue invaded and conquered, leaving Mikey unable to do anything but lie there and try valiantly to meet his thrusts with his own tongue.

Distantly Mikey felt hands skimming over his body, and they couldn’t be Jimmy’s, because Jimmy had Mikey’s face held tight between his palms, turning his head to whatever angle Jimmy wanted next. Cory stripped away Mikey’s underwear, leaving him in nothing at all, but he felt no more naked than he had before. They’d already stripped him bare inside, so what difference did a little clothing make?
