Challenges of writing a menage story.
I remember three years ago when I picked up the very first ménage book and not knowing why I chose it, because I’m such a jealous person and the idea of sharing who I love, or sharing my partner’s love with another person was such a difficult thing to understand.
I thought it would be the sex which hooked me, but it wasn’t. It was the way the men in them struggled and worked through their issues to make a relationship work with all three of them on equal ground. I love complicated emotional characters, so having three, not two, just grabbed me and took hold.
I never saw myself writing one, but my men had other ideas. It was a natural progression for a couple in my series who were struggling to make things work. No matter how much they loved each other, or wanted it to work out, it wasn’t enough. It was at that point they made the decision to move on with another character, and hey presto, I was caught up in my first ménage book without any plans or idea where it would go, or even if I would publish it.
I really didn’t feel confident people would enjoy the men moving on that way, so the biggest challenge for me writing ménage was convincing my readers it was the right thing to do. When you have a couple who have been in over ten books and are well established as jealous and possessive people, who had gone through hell and back to get that point, how could I convince my readers moving on with a new character was a good idea and it was what they wanted? That was my challenge.
Trust was the ninth novel in my Hidden series, and it was the one I worried over more than any of the others I published. Yes, people panicked, and I was emailed constantly, having to walk people step by step through the chapters. But slowly, as they progressed through the book, I found out I’d won my challenge, and everyone knew a ménage was the right thing for the men they loved.
The most challenging thing about a ménage is making sure everyone is on the same level emotionally and physically. The one thing no one likes to feel when they read ménage is that two of the characters are closer, or that they connect on a deeper level than they do with the third. No one want’s to be left out in the cold, that was the biggest feedback I got while I was waiting to publish my first ménage book. People didn’t want anyone to feel like an add on, like they were there as a healing balm, just to bind the other two together.
Each person in the relationship has to keep their individuality and have their needs fulfilled in their own unique way and make sure they fulfill the other people in the same way. It’s like a never ending circle, each person giving and receiving different things, be it emotionally or other, providing the threesome with their own special personal traits and encouraging the others to do the same. Trust is a huge issue in any relationship, and with three, communication and confidence in each other can be the most difficult to show well.
Each ménage is really just like any other relationship, whether it’s with two, three, or more people. It has its own challenges and they all have their own journey, and each road they go down is a new one for me. I work through their issues at the same time they do. I don’t plan out where they’re heading, they drag me along. :D
Basically, what I’m trying to say is this…
“It doesn’t just take the sun to brighten our sky. It takes the sun, the moon and the stars to light up our lives completely. Each one relying on the other. Each one existing to complement the others existence. A cosmic trinity which we couldn't live without.”
My characters somehow always say things much better than what I could ever do. :D

Meet the first three men in my Manchester Ménage Collection.
Their mouths parted, Daniel moaning as Milo slipped his tongue inside him, teasing him with soft caresses until he plunged deeply into his mouth, fighting with Daniel’s tongue as their bodies began to grind together in that perfect dance. Both were so in tune to the other, both knowing just what to give to drive the other insane with desire.
“I need you, Danny. You can feel how much I need you.” Milo pressed the ridge of his swollen cock against Daniel’s, both groaning as their lengths rubbed against each other. “What I need, I can only get from you. You’re the only one on my mind. Even when I'm alone, you’re the one I see, who I hear with me, who I feel under me, over me, against me. It’s just you, Daniel. It has been for three years. There’s no one else.”
Daniel’s hands were in Milo’s hair, clinging onto him tightly and forcing their mouths to collide again, his hips raising up and crushing their cocks against each other. They were both breathing too fast, their bodies crying out for more when Milo lifted from Daniel’s swollen lips.
“You don’t have to lie to me.” Daniel moaned as Milo worked his hand over his cock, the sweatpants he wore tenting over his length.
“I’m not lying.”
Daniel’s eyes focused more on him, the truth finally seeping through that thick skull of his. “Milo…”
Milo fisted his hand tighter in Daniel’s hair. Seeing him like this turned him on too much. “Tell me what you want.”
Daniel paused, but his body rose up to Milo’s, begging for what it needed before he could say the words. “I need you inside me.”
