Months after being forced to leave his lover and mate Ari Jannsen behind, Hunter Devin settles into his role as Enforcer for the newly formed Deagan Clan under the rule of his new Alpha and best friend Tristan "Trip" Hagan. Along with Hunter’s brother Boone, their nephews, sister, and mother, Hunter finally has the family he’s always wanted, but without his little rebel Ari, his heart is incomplete.
The Hagan Clan is unable to accept the Deagan Clan’s betrayal for walking away and taking the clan’s pups with them. War looms. As both clans plan their attack, a greater enemy plots against them. But Hunter is determined to get his Ari back. Bonds are put to the test and unexpected alliances are made as Hunter and his clan set out to protect their own and end the spreading heartache.
In a couple of days, Charlie will be visiting Sinfully with her official blog tour for Healing Hunters Heart so don’t forget to pop back then, as there will be fun stuff and giveaways. But in the meantime here’s my release day review – I loved it – and a link to the fab freebie that started it all off.
So don’t delay…get clicking!!!
It all started with Charlie's entry for the Goodreads Love Has No Boundaries event in 2013 and for a free short story, An Intrepid Trip To Love is an absolute must have. Not only because it's pretty much the length of a regular novella—which I remember thinking at the time, I'd quite happily have paid for—but because it really is a hugely enjoyable read. I liked it a lot the first time around but loved it even more on its re-read, and had a great time reacquainting myself with all the fantastic characters; catching up on the clan intrigue that lead up to its edge of your seat ending and start of Hunter and Ari's romantic predicament!
Completely different to the shifter universe of her THIRDS series; this is definitely more traditional in its world building and lore, which Charlie has really put some thought into. So much so, that she's given us a well informed glossary and character list at the start of the book, that really helps sort out the hierarchies and designated roles of the clan members within it, as well as giving a bit more informative insight into the shifter culture as well. I still recommend reading Trip's story first though, as that sets the scene for Hunter's follow up tale perfectly...and you just have to witness the big strong Alpha shifters trying to kill the 'mutant spider' in Robbie's bedroom! LOL...I'm still laughing at that now!
The elite packs here are purebred huskies, and their enforcers are half breed husky/wolf shifters, but in this culture it's a matter of 'never the twain shall meet' for the two groups in the mates stakes, for fear of retribution from the antiquated council, whose reasons for this archaic law become extremely clear in book one; when reluctant Alpha to be, Trip Hagan, realises he's 'true mated' to the gorgeous but (under the current laws) unattainable Boone: his Devil Dog enforcer and protector.
The fact that Trip is also gay, (amicably) divorced and father to the future pack Alpha has estranged him further from his cold, rigid, tunnel visioned father, and the ever plotting council members, whose underhanded, conniving secrets and subsequent actions, lead to Trip, Boone and his close friends and supporters finally forming their own clan; effectively splitting Boone's brother and Trips other enforcer and best friend, Hunter, from his own purebred lover “Little Rebel” Ari: whose sacrifice at the end of the first book is the impetus for Hunters quest to rescue his man and revenge himself against Ari's mother...the crazy assed, heinous bitch whose twisted agenda puts everyone in extreme danger...especially her own son!
In Trip’s and Hunter’s books, Charlie has brought us another genuine cast, whose likability factor and winning personalities draw you into the story with an ease, that due to an equally easy style of writing, makes you feel like you’d really like to get to know these people and be part of their story. I love how she manages to do that in every book of hers that I’ve read up to now. The bad guys are suitably nasty pieces of work, and her good guys are tasty, gutsy and heroic, so get ready for some droolage!
Amongst the excitement and fast paced, energetic plot, there's the recognisable, trademark, Cochet wit and goofy humour, that endears you even more to her guys. Little seven year old Robbie in particular is an adorable scamp. Children can make or break a story if they're not written well. I hate precocious kids and more often than not that's the case when they're used to up the funny factor or add an emotional, schmaltzy edge to the pot, but not this engaging pup! He adds laughter and heart, but without the schmaltz, and is a little gem throughout. One of my favourite characters overall.
Hot, sexy love scenes, action, heart warming family interaction, humour, and a nice touch of Machiavellian style intrigue all go toward making Healing Hunters Heart a thoroughly entertaining read. Being honest, my favourite is book one by a smidge, but this still pulled me in, kept me glued and left me satisfied; looking forward to the next episode. There's a suave wolf and an uncouth enforcer who I'm pretty certain are next in line for the Cochet treatment, and I'm already chomping at the bit for their dynamics… it can only be good if it’s coming from the imagination of Charlie Cochet!
So….drop everything and and go and download An Intrepid Trip To Love: the fabulous freebie that spawned the idea for this fun new, romantic, action adventure shifter series, then treat yourself to it’s enticing follow up.
