Synopsis

Normal is just a setting on the dryer.

The Roosevelt, Book 1

High school graduate Jeremey Samson is looking forward to burying his head under the covers and sleeping until it’s time to leave for college. Then a tornado named Emmet Washington enters his life. The double major in math and computer science is handsome, forward, wicked smart, interested in dating Jeremey—and he’s autistic.

But Jeremey doesn’t judge him for that. He’s too busy judging himself, as are his parents, who don’t believe in things like clinical depression. When his untreated illness reaches a critical breaking point, Emmet is the white knight who rescues him and brings him along as a roommate to The Roosevelt, a quirky new assisted living facility nearby.

As Jeremey finds his feet at The Roosevelt, Emmet slowly begins to believe he can be loved for the man he is behind the autism. But before he can trust enough to fall head over heels, he must trust his own conviction that friendship is a healing force, and love can overcome any obstacle.

Warning: Contains characters obsessed with trains and counting, positive representations of autism and mental illness, a very dark moment, and Elwood Blues.

Macky: This month Heidi Cullinan's 'Carry The Ocean' is my March Hot Pick simply because it touched me to the core. Beautifully written, sensitively portrayed and emotionally satisfying; I just loved everything about it...especially it's Blues Brothers connection which complimented the story perfectly! The adorably amazing, autistic Emmet 'Train Man' Washington (what an awesome character) and sweet but struggling to cope with life, Jeremey 'with an extra e' Samson's love story will stay in my heart forever. Big, big love for this novel and another validation, for me, why I admire Heidi Cullinans writing so much.

The wrong secret could flush their love down the drain.

The Plumber’s Mate, Book 3

It’s been six months since plumber Tom Paretski was hit with a shocking revelation about his family. His lover, P.I. Phil Morrison, is pushing this as an ideal opportunity for Tom to try to develop his psychic talent for finding things. Tom would prefer to avoid the subject altogether, but just as he decides to bite the bullet, worse problems come crawling out of the woodwork.

Marianne, a young barmaid at the Devil’s Dyke pub, has an ex who won’t accept things are over between them. Grant Carey is ruthless in dealing with anyone who gets between him and Marianne, including an old friend of Tom and Phil. Their eagerness to step in and help only makes them targets of Grant’s wrath themselves.

With Tom’s uncertainty about Phil’s motives, Tom’s family doing their best to drive a wedge between them, and the revelation of an ugly incident in Phil’s past, suddenly Tom’s not sure whom he can trust.

The body in the Dyke’s cellar isn’t the only thing that stinks.

Warning: Contains British slang, a very un-British heat wave, and a plumber with a psychic gift who may not be as British as he thinks he is.

Mark: My Hot Pick from March is Heat Trap by JL Merrow. I had been waiting sooooo long for this book to be released and couldn’t wait to get reading as soon as it was.

What I love about this whole series is the intricate plots. A well devised murder / mystery, but you also have Tom and Phil’s relationship, their personal circumstances running parallel beside all the investigative business. Tom still not knowing what to do now he knows from the previous book that his dad isn’t actually his biological dad. To approach or not to approach his mum about this issue. Gary’s and Darren’s impending wedding as with the his sister Cherry and her ecclesiastical fiancé Gregory. Phil’s shrouded secret of why he left the police comes to light rising doubt in Tom whether he really knows Phil or not. An extremely multi-facetted book with all these things expertly woven into a smooth whole from the pen of JL Merrow – LOVED IT!!! So once again one extremely intriguing story from beginning to end. If you haven’t started this series yet then make sure you do!

Axel's Pup (Werewolves and Dragons) by Kim Dare

Liza’s Review

GRbuttonhotpicks11834315

Synopsis

As the landlord of The Dragon’s Lair and leader of The Black Dragons Motorcycle Club, Axel Carmichael has seen it all and done it all. He’s a respected and experienced dom. Nothing shocks him any more, and nobody catches him off guard.

When Bayden rides up to The Dragon’s Lair on a bike worth more than most men earn in a year, and immediately demonstrates that he has far more attitude than sense, it’s easy for Axel to write him off as a silly little rich boy who’s about to get himself killed.

But, there’s more to Bayden than meets the eye. He’s no silly little boy, rich or otherwise, and werewolves aren’t easy to kill.

Liza: A really unusual take on a shifter story, with BDSM elements and a connection between wolf and human unlike any other I have read.  Axel's Pup is the story of Bayden, a wolf shifter who is struggling to make money to help his mother and Grandfather.  Struggling because in this world humans know about wolf shifters and do their best to keep them down.  I found that so sad.

Bayden walks into a bar and within minutes is challenged to a fight.  Unbeknown to the bar owner - Axel - this is one of the ways Bayden makes his money, but for some reason Axel sees something in Bayden that others haven't.  So when the fight is over, he tends to Bayden's wounds and invites the pup back to the bar anytime he likes.

There are so many levels in this compelling story.  Bayden's fight for who he is, struggling against the teachings of his dead father, and his own desires. Axel's desire to keep his club safe, but wanting to cherish Bayden as his submissive. The secondary characters are colorful and add yet another dynamic to this wonderful story.

GRbuttonhotpicks11834315

Synopsis

Restaurant owner Tom Fearnes has loved his partner Cass for as long as he can remember, but their work often keeps them apart. When he meets a striking young man named Jake on the vibrant streets of Camden Town, their heady first encounter takes an unexpected turn.

Jake Thompson can hardly believe his luck when he wakes up in Tom’s bed. Tom is gorgeous, kind, and . . . taken. Tom’s explanation of his open relationship leaves Jake cold, but Tom is too tempting, and when hard times force Jake to accept Tom’s helping hand, he finds himself between two men who’ve lost their way.

Cass Pearson is a troubled soul. He loves Tom with all he has, but some days it feels like he hasn’t much to give. Jake seems like the perfect solution. Cass risks everything to push Jake and Tom together, but Jake resists, wary, until the darkness of Cass’s past comes to call. Then Jake finds himself the last man standing, and it’s time to dig deep and shine a light for the men he’s grown to love.

Monique: I could wax lyrical as always when it comes to Garrett, about the characterisation, plot, her simple observations of life that enhance the realism of the characters, or just how visually stunning her books are. How the familiarity of her work makes me feel that her books are written just for me. But at the end of the day, it comes down to the fact that I just ‘get it’. I understand what she’s trying to say, I see the interpretation of the characters, from their whisperings to the finished result on the page. I feel the spectrum of emotions from her boys, all of which enables me to relate to them… and with Jake, Tom and Cass I felt it all… and it was fucking beautiful!

This is not as angst filled as I’m used to from Garrett Leigh, neither is it a sex fest, considering it’s a ménage. It’s a beautiful, heartfelt romance where we see them gradually explore their emotions, tentatively approaching the dynamic in a realistic way… and I was always confident in Tom’s strength, Jake’s commitment and transparency and Cass’s huge heart… knowing they could deal with what life threw at them.

Curious (The Finn Factor Book 1) by R.G. Alexander

Lisa’s Review

GRbuttonhotpicks11834315

Synopsis

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author R.G. Alexander
Are you Curious?
Jeremy Porter is. Though the bisexual comic book artist has known Owen Finn for most of his life—long enough to know that he is terminally straight—he can’t help but imagine what things would be like if he weren’t.

Owen is far from vanilla—as a dominant in the local fetish community, he sees as much action as Jeremy does. Lately even more.

Since Jeremy isn’t into collars and Owen isn’t into men, it seems like his fantasies will remain just that forever…until one night when Owen gets curious.

Warning: Contains explicit m/m nookie. A lot of it. Very detailed. Two men getting kinky, talking dirty and doing the horizontal mambo. Are you reading this? Do you see them on the cover? Guy parts will touch. You have been warned.

Lisa: Curious is the first book in R. G. Alexander’s new series entitled The Finn Factor. This is my first book by this author and after reading it I was left wondering why in the world I have never read any R. G. Alexander books before??? This friends to lovers tale is fantastically sexy, humourous, endearing and an all-around sweet romance.

I absolutely love the author’s “warning” to readers when it comes to this book.

“Warning: Contains explicit m/m nookie. A lot of it. Very detailed. Two men getting kinky, talking dirty and doing the horizontal mambo. Are you reading this? Do you see them on the cover? Guy parts will touch. You have been warned.”

See! It definitely sets the tone of what you will read and is brilliant and hilarious.

Sally’s Hot Pick

His Client by Ava March

Sally’s Review

GRbuttonhotpicks11834315

Synopsis

Love wasn't supposed to be part of the bargain…

On every visit to Madame Delacroix’s brothel, Nathaniel Travers requests the same man. Stunningly handsome and highly skilled, Jasper not only shares Nate’s fondness for wickedly erotic games and black leather corsets, but he has become a trusted confidant. And Jasper’s the only person who knows Nate longs for a committed relationship with his childhood friend, Peter Edmonton.

Unrequited love hurts, but it hurts even more when the object of affection is in love with another. Jasper Reed has been working at Delacroix’s for a decade. He’s saved enough to retire, yet he remains at the decadent London brothel. Leaving would mean leaving Nate and the hope someday the rugged gentleman would stop pining for his best friend and realize he loves Jasper, just as Jasper loves him.

Edmonton’s impending marriage looms before them, causing Jasper to take another look at his stubborn heart. Yet Jasper’s a bastard whore, and Nate’s the nephew of a viscount. Surely there can’t be any hope for them…

Note: This is a previously published work. This second edition has been edited with minor changes. For readers who purchased the original edition, this second edition is not substantially different.

Sally: His Client had an interesting and admirable hero in Jasper. His intelligence and his patience with his rather clueless lover invited respect and I was so relieved that he found his happy ending. Ms March is also a dab hand at evoking the atmosphere of the late Georgian period with her short but sensual descriptions. Well worth reading and, if you enjoy this one, there's a short sequel.
