Book Two in the Sin City Uniforms series
Vegas is filled with human cast-offs, yet officer Parker McLean sees something special in hustler Slade Wolfgang. Unfortunately, so does Slade’s pimp who wants to sell him overseas in the sex trade.
Hustler Slade Wolfgang has little choice over his fate. At the age of twenty, he’s had to survive any way he can since being thrown out of his home for being gay. As soon as he hit Vegas, Slade was lured into the hopeless world of prostitution where he’s become a virtual prisoner to his pimp, the ruthless Julio Estevez. His evil keeper has even threatened to sell Slade overseas as a sex slave.
It’s another typical night on the Strip when Parker comes across Slade. His heart breaks every time he sees someone so young being exploited. Something in Slade’s eyes tells Parker the young man might be in real trouble though—especially after the recent spate of sex worker killings from a rival prostitution ring.
The two men’s lives become intertwined when Slade is almost beaten to death. The danger grows, but so does the relationship between Parker and Slade. Parker helps Slade to heal from the horrific attack and their bond deepens. But the human traffickers are still out there—and they’re still looking for Slade.
Slade has had a hard life, and he's only twenty. Kicked out by his parents at seventeen for being gay, Slade had tried working, but with no diploma he quickly found himself barely keeping himself afloat. So like so many men and women before him, Slade turned to prostitution just so that he could afford to eat. When he was taken on by pimp Julio, he wasn't sure that his luck had changed that much, but at least he had somewhere to stay.
Parker is a good policeman - good at his job, good as a person. Sure he's not in a relationship and relies on a fuck buddy, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want someone permanent in his life, does it? His first meeting with Slade left him on the pavement clutching his crotch. His second had Slade leaving him to go to a party he'd been ordered to attend.
It wasn't until their third meeting, again under less than ideal circumstances, that Parker and Slade start to forge a connection. But understandably, given what Slade has gone through, the relationship, friendship and trust between the two men, was going to take time.
I don't wanna come in here and turn your world upside down, change everything about you.
This book was a lot harder than book one in the series (All Fired Up). For one thing there is a lot more violence, and what Slade has to go through is not pretty. However, like book one, both Parker and Slade have at least one good friend, who provide positive advice when necessary. Valeena for Slade (who's real name turned out to be Lonnie) and Beau and Darren for Parker. I do like how Ms. Knight makes a point of using dialogue and interactions with secondary characters to give the readers a deeper understanding of what the two MCs feel, and are going through, although this book two uses both points of view, so we always know what Parker and Slade are thinking.
He risked his life for me and I'm upset over a fucking hickey?
Yes, the sex in this book is as blazing hot as any other of Ms. Knight's novels. The author has the ability to create a situation that gives the reader an insight into powerful emotions as well as physical actions, and that is a super-hot thing to do. This book has it all - action, romance, a tad more violence than I am comfortable with, but the story was an honest one and I think Ms. Knight wrote it beautifully.

Slade let Valeena examine the purpling bruises on his arms. He didn’t think he would’ve lasted a month in the Vegas sex trade if it hadn’t been for her guidance. She’d helped him from the beginning, warned him about some of the dangers, gave him tips of the trade and was generally there as a friend. She was only a few years older than him, but she still had the look of a teen. She was tiny with a pixie haircut and freckles that danced across her nose. Her dark brown hair was highlighted with various bright shades that were ever-changing. The current one was a royal blue.
“I still can’t believe that boring old businessman Harold did this.”
They were seated cross-legged across from one another on one of the beds in the room they shared with Julio’s other workers.
Their sleeping quarters were in a crappy house south of downtown in an equally crappy area. It was almost dawn and they’d both just returned. Julio would be by later that morning to collect. He expected a certain take and if they didn’t hand over the purported amount, there would be hell to pay. Beatings were common, but many times it would be something worse. Something involving his friends and things that Slade didn’t want to contemplate. He shuddered.
Valeena patted his back in a gesture of reassurance. “I’m sorry, sweetie. He seemed like a safe regular.”
“It’s okay. I thought so too.”
She was the one who had advised him to find a few guys who really dug him and weren’t into the weirder or rougher shit. If he encouraged them, got them stuck on him, he wouldn’t have to work as hard to make Julio’s quotas and he’d have a better chance at staying safe.
“What are you gonna do? You can’t tell Julio—the guy pays a lot for you.”
“You don’t think that freak would really go to Julio to try and buy me, do you?”
“Ppphh. As if. He wouldn’t even know how to get in touch with him, right?” She gave his shoulder a little push. “You know that Julio never talks to the johns. He just makes that old hag Rita take all the calls and make all the dates.” Valeena pursed her lips. “That fucking bitch. She booked me with Stinky on purpose, I know she did.”
Slade bit his lip to keep from laughing, but he couldn’t hide his expression.
“Oh yeah, laugh it up. You’re not the one who had to suck off a guy who smelled as if he’d been plated with rancid sweat. He’s lucky I didn’t hurl all over him.”
The mirth left Slade at the thought of it. “That’s gross.”
She rolled her eyes. “Gross is too tame a word.” Her look changed to one of concern. “Anyway, how did you do tonight? I mean, did Harold at least throw down after he pulled that shit?”
He wasn’t cold but he couldn’t stop shivering. Things seemed to be deteriorating for him instead of getting better. Somewhere in the back of his mind he’d always known he was screwed as soon as he’d been caught in Julio’s grimy clutches. But somehow the incident with Harold had rubbed his nose in the fact that he really had no options. He would live as long as he could then likely end up dying either at Julio’s or by one of the john’s hands.
Meet Morticia Knight
M/M Erotic Romance author Morticia Knight enjoys a good saucy tale – after all, who doesn’t? Since she loves several genres, you may find your heroes in a contemporary, historical, paranormal or sci-fi setting. One of her passions is bringing people's fantasies to life on the page, because life is too short for even one boring moment. Her stories are volcanic in heat, deep in emotion, and sprinkled with doses of humor.
When not indulging in her obsession for books, she loves the outdoors, film and music. The Pacific Northwest is the ideal spot to enjoy both hiking and beachcombing. Once upon a time she was the singer in an indie rock band that toured the West Coast and charted on U.S. college radio. She now resides on the northern coast of Oregon, where the constant rain and fog remind her of visits to family in England and Scotland when she was a child.
She is currently working on the Sin City Uniforms Series and a BDSM spin-off to the Gin & Jazz series entitled The Hampton Road Club. A follow-up to Bryan and Aubrey’s story in Rockin’ the Alternative will also be available in 2015 through Totally Bound Publishing.
