Synopsis

Exiled by his pack as a teen, Omega wolf Simon Moorehead learns to bury his gentle nature in the interest of survival. When a hulking, rough-faced Alpha catches Simon on pack territory, he tries to escape what he’s sure will be imminent death. But instead of killing him, the Alpha takes Simon home.
A man of action, Mitch Grant uproots his life to support his brother in leading the Blue Mountain pack. Mitch lives on the periphery, quietly protecting everyone, but always alone. A mate is a dream come true for Mitch, and he won’t let little things like Simon’s rejections, attacks, and insults get in their way. With patience, seduction, and genuine care, Mitch will ride out the storm while Simon slays his own ghosts and Mitch’s loneliness.

Blue Mountain

Okay one word: SHIFTERLICIOUS! Another lovely paranormal tale from Cardeno C and a side of this author which is fast becoming a favourite with me. Blue Mountain is the start of another series set around a new pack of wolf shifters, and the two wolves getting their story told in its first book are Mitch Grant and Simon Moorehead; an Alpha and his Omega mate. Only Mitch isn't actually the Alpha of the Blue Mountain pack, his twin brother Frederick is. As it stands, six foot seven inch, Mitch has never wanted his own pack so acts more as Blue Mountains protector and enforcer, leaving his more, socially accessible brother to do the job. More than a little intimidating with his bulk, shaved head and slightly rough countenance, the majority of the pack are still a bit wary of him, as his reputation from the time he and Freddy challenged the prior (nasty) Alpha, four years before; killing him and his Beta's, has lingered among them, so basically he does what's needed to help protect them, but tends to keep himself to himself. Freddy is happily mated to a strong female who under different circumstances could also lead her own pack as she is also an Alpha, but their mate bond is so strong that the dynamics between them still work.

Being gay Mitch is still looking for his own mate, someone he's longing to find, but up to this point he's had no joy in that department, that is until one day some pack members turn up with the news there's a lone wolf shifter on pack territory; a stranger who they've attacked as a warning to leave. They arrive with the wolf's blood on them and as soon as Mitch catches its scent something primal calls strongly to him and he can only hope it's what he thinks it is...the other big surprise is that the male wolf is an Omega. An unusual occurrence in this particular shifter lore and something not particularly looked kindly upon amongst other wolves, as male Omegas are seen as useless members of the pack, with no purpose at all to their brethren.

To cut a long story short, Freddy also gets a vibe surrounding this new shifter and his brother so he sends Mitch to find out why this stranger hasn't asked for permission to be on pack land. Mitch's instincts are proved right when he finds the injured wolf and close contact confirms that it is in fact his long awaited mate! Only when Mitch tries to claim the small, skittish wolf, he shies away, rejecting the Alpha...fighting all his efforts to convince him that finally he's safe and where he belongs...with Mitch!

"Damn it!" the Alpha yelled. He snaked his meaty Palm around Simons neck and grabbed his muzzle, holding his mouth shut. "Quit fighting me."

Simon shifted into his human form, dragged in air and said, "Never."

"Why?" The Alpha sounded genuinely confused. "You're an Omega. I can smell you. You need to submit."

Simon Moorehead has a history with the Blue Mountain pack that has made him into the distrustful, fearful person he is. Because of his Omega status, he's been treated badly wherever he goes and has never lived among a pack since he and his mother were thrown out of their original home, now she's gone and he's just about surviving on his own. Also gay but because of circumstances, repressing it, he feels the need to submit to this dominating Alpha straightaway but fights it with every ounce of emotional strength he's got left. Wary of this huge man's intentions, which he's sure are like every other shifter he's come across, he resists the ingrained pull he's feeling...and that's basically what this sweet sexy romance is all about, as Mitch uses everything in his arsenal to convince Simon that they're true mates and that all he wants to do is take care of him, love and cherish him! Not an easy job but watching Simon slowly come to the realization that it's something he can't hold off, as Mitch gently and patiently woo's his soul mate, was just so lovely.

Like always, the heart and soul of this engaging love story is the chemistry and connection that CC always manages to portray beautifully between it's two MC's. The sexual tension crackles as you're drawn into their battle of wills and the pull/push nature of their relationship. It might not be a particularly action packed shifter tale but there's enough back story fed in to make it feel like there's more going on than just the tenuous romance. I got a real sense of the way the pack works and the touch of world building, that's woven into the story as it goes along; setting up more of what's obviously to come as the series progresses and I really like the vibes I'm getting so far about the guys from the Blue Mountain pack. There's a teaser slipped in about a character who I'm pretty sure will be showing up in the series' future and if I'm right he's going to be bringing a few secrets of his own, one in particular that's got me hooked me already as I'm dying to know what that's all about!

What I love about all Cardeno's shifter series are that they're just so easy to read. Enjoyable because they're all about getting lost in the story, caught up in the romance and living the happy ever after. The perfect story to curl up with when you've had a stressful day and all you want to do is wind down. The sex is hot, the stories are sweet and you always know that you'll end with a smile and a sigh of contentment. What more can you ask for. Resident Cardeno fans will not be disappointed and new ones will definitely be made. Enjoy!
