Synopsis

Some mistakes are worth making.
Reclusive comic book artist Trip Spector spends his life doodling super-square, straitlaced superheroes, hiding from his fans, and crushing on his unattainable boss until he meets the dork of his dreams. Silas Goolsby is a rowdy FX makeup creator with a loveless love life and a secret streak of geek who yearns for unlikely rescues and a truly creative partnership.
Against their better judgment, they fall victim to chemistry, and what starts as infatuation quickly grows tender and terrifying. With Silas’s help, Trip gambles his heart and his art on a rotten plan: sketching out Scratch, a "very graphic novel" that will either make his name or wreck his career. But even a smash can't save their world if Trip retreats into his mild-mannered rut, leaving Silas to grapple with betrayal and emotions he can't escape.
What will it take for this dynamic duo to discover that heroes never play it safe?

Monique’s Quick Bite

This book is brilliant! ...the narrative seductive and powerful and the story unique, with characters that kept me mesmerised. I was engulfed in a warm blanket of happiness, with a whole heap of craziness whilst reading this book that starts at such a fast pace and with so much energy, I was buzzing. Totally emotionally connection to the characters and rendered a useless blubbering mess with a school girl crush on two men that completely and utterly stole my heart. Bad Idea is the stuff of movies, and quite frankly if ever an m/m romance novel should be made into a movie… this is it! Visually it was stunning and I say that in all honesty, because in my head it came alive, it was graphic, the characters three dimensional with every movement, expression, nuance, in fact every scene, all of it, played out vividly… and I was right there with them every step of the way,  absorbing and cherishing every moment.

I absolutely adored this book… one of my all time favourites!

Vivaldi in the Dark by Matthew J. Metzger

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

Out-and-regretting-it comprehensive attendee Jayden Phillips turns his cast-iron plans for life upside-down by falling in love with private-school violinist Darren Peace, a sardonic boy with the craziest hair Jayden's ever seen.
But all is not what it seems, and Jayden's bullying problem becomes meaningless when he is confronted with what the music does to Darren. How do you stop a dangerous depression rooted in the same thing that makes someone what they are? Dark moods, blank apathy, and the undertow of self-loathing all simmer beneath Darren's dry and beautiful veneer, and Jayden feels powerless to stop them.
Then a mugging gone wrong takes the music forcibly away, and Jayden is finally given the chance to change Darren's life -- and, quite literally, his mind.

Mark’s Quick Bite

Why do I like YA? Well, it makes me remember that very first kiss, that sense of trepidation with your first real love, the emotional turmoil of being sixteen again. This book brings all those feelings together in one wonderful story.

This book deals with a number of teenage problems and issues beautifully described, emotional and harrowing, especially when you are sixteen. I was enraptured by the writing from the very beginning. It flows beautifully, is coherent and a joy to read. It made me fear once again the horrible school bullies, it made me coy at the first touch of someone else’s body. The first sweet kiss with sparks flying and hormones racing, would I want to be a teenager again? No definitely not! But what sweet joy, so for all the Mums, Dads, teachers, carers and young at heart this book will be a real treat.

First You Fall by Scott Sherman

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

Winner of the Lambda Literary Award for Best Mystery, 2009.

When his friend's death is ruled a suicide, Kevin Connor--a hustler by trade, sleuth by default--sets out to prove a case of murder. It doesn't help matters that the victim's grown children, who disapproved of their father's sexual orientation, are only concerned about their inheritance. But they are not Kevin's only problem. His high-strung mother has moved in with him--and she knows nothing about his questionable . . . job. Throw in his super-hot ex - now a New York City detective - and Kevin has more than his hands full.
JA Konrath calls Sherman "the gay Janet Evanovich." You'll fall for this sexy, funny first mystery in the Kevin Connor series.
Scott Sherman has written for Newsweek, Genre, Instinct, and The Washington Blade. The follow-up to First You Fall, Second You Sin was released by Kensington in October, 2011 in trade paperback and for the Kindle. The third book in the series will be coming out in 2012.

Macky’s Quick Bite

Meet Kevin: gay, amateur sleuth, male prostitute with sass, attitude and a bucket load of cute! I discovered him via Josh Lanyons Adrien English series because somewhere in one of the Adrien books (can't remember which one now) the Scott Sherman series is mentioned by Mr English and it peaked my interest so I went looking for it, found it and liking the sound of the blurb promptly bought the whole series; although I had to buy one as a paperback. I read this and that was it, I was hooked! All I can say is if you ever read the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich and loved them like I did, then you'll be just as enamoured with Kevin and all the daft, quirky secondary characters who support him. Kevin is a trouble magnet and he's just plain adorable! The book is funny...I laughed out loud more than once and when you meet all the cast including his sex on legs, shag anything that moves, flamboyant BFF, his cringeworthy embarrassing mother and his transvestite 'madam' boss, you'll find out why.

In terms of plot, there's actually a decent enough crime story running through with lots of red herrings...and not forgetting the love interests. There's more than one hot guy vying for Kevin's attention, his old flame, a cop, being the front runner but of course love never runs smoothly for our cutie Kevin! Considering his profession, this isn't particularly a porntastic feast of sex but his weirdo clients have some kinks and quirks that had me snorting. This is one of those stories that follows tropes and has characters that admittedly aren't particularly fresh, but it's just so engaging that the adage "if it's not broken don't fix it" fits it perfectly. It just worked big time for me because I do love this type of humor, and then Kevin is such a sweetie—I adored the twinky pants of him. It really is a fun read which left me grinning and all geared up for his next set of kooky adventures. Probably 4 stars really for story but I five starred it for the pure enjoyment I personally got from it.
