Author: Bella Jewel
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: October 27, 2014
There are a lot of things in this world that are easy to escape from. Having a son you didn't ask for isn't one of them.
Mack is a nomad. He likes his own space and he struggles with emotion. His past is grey and his future looks about the same. That is until his ex-girlfriend dies and his son is handed over to him. A two month old baby he didn't know existed. Until now.
His world comes crashing down around him.
Desperate, he hires a nanny.
Jaylah has gotten herself into some serious trouble, so when she sees the job opening for a nanny pop up, she jumps on it. Of course she's not a nanny, but she figures she can pull it off. I mean, how hard can it be?
She's thrown into a world of diapers, hourly feedings and a whole lot of laundry. She's also introduced to the most rugged, gorgeous man she's ever had the pleasure of meeting.
The best part, he's the baby's father.
The worst part, he's a biker.
Their sexual tension is huge, but he's a hard nut to crack. She'll get in, though. She makes it her mission to break through the wall Mack has built so high around himself.
Her world is about to spiral out of control, and she's taking Mack along for the ride.
4.5 “What do you get when you put a biker, a baby and a nanny together?” Stars
Anguish is book three in Bella Jewel’s Joker’s Wrath MC series. I am a huge fan of this author and the awesome biker series she manages to conjure up. I connect with Ms. Jewel’s writing style and always fall hard for her hard-edged and raw alpha heroes. In this series we are taken into a dark, dangerous and intriguing biker world. These men do not form part of a do-good biker club out to change the world for the better. Nope. These men are ruthless criminals and they are deadly. So what happens when one of them is given much more than he can handle?
Due to her misguided judgment in the loser she decided to date and then protect, Jaylah now finds herself in a shit ton of trouble. She needs to hide out for a while and she needs some cash….desperately. Therefore, desperate times call for desperate measures and Jaylah takes on a full-time nanny position thinking that she can handle a little itty-bitty baby. Uh huh. All of a sudden she is thrust into a world of feedings, diaper changes and little sleep. But the baby is the least of her worries. It is the baby’s father that Jaylah can’t get a handle on. Oh, and did I mention he is a biker.
Mack has recently returned into the fold of the Joker’s Wrath MC, the biker club his brother leads as the President. Mack is used to a more nomadic lifestyle where there is no one to bother him as he wallows in a pit of hollowness and despair. When the sister of his ex-girlfriend shows up on his doorstep informing him that his ex-girlfriend has died and has left him with a two month old son, Mack is taken aback considering the fact that he had no idea the baby existed in the first place. Mack’s life is forever altered irrevocably and he has no idea how to handle a baby he did not ask for. He hires a nanny to take on the responsibility of caring for his son. When a whirlwind of a female that is all hair and sass saunters in and requests the nanny position, Mack has little choice but to hire her. After all, who else will put up with his surly ass?
“God, Mack, he tastes like heaven and hell, all blended together in a destructive concoction.”
Jaylah begins working for Mack and the tension between them is palpable. Mack is an ass and he makes no accommodations for the fact that he now has a female presence living in his home. Despite the “scary stay away from me” vibe Mack gives off, Jaylah is not one to hold back and she makes it known that he is pissing her off. She has got a whole lot of spunk and attitude and Mack is definitely on the receiving end of it more times than I could count. Even with Mack’s asshole ways and his tendency to shut Jaylah out, the pair begin to form a bond and soon the sexual tension that has been brewing between them can no longer be ignored. Are they brave enough to open up and allow the other in? And, when both their pasts come barreling into their lives once again, will they be able to withstand the danger and hang on to one another?
“We’re in the now. And right now, the only things I want are you and my son.”
I loved this book. For me it was the best in the series so far. Mack was definitely standoffish and broody but Jaylay was the right type of woman to stand up to him and push him out of the bubble of solitude he forced himself to live in. She was a force to be reckoned with and it was hard not to find her endearing. Jaylah certainly altered the path she was walking and the course of her destiny by strolling into the midst of the Joker’s Wrath MC and into Mack’s life. Here was a man so broken and damaged that he could not see the gift he had been given in his son. Mack was not an easy man but when he let you into his inner circle he was loyal and was there for you. He proved that by standing by Jaylah and helping her out with her troubles. Watching the pair struggle with their feelings and their lust made for a sweet, sexy and heart-warming journey. My heart is still smiling.
All in all, Anguish was a wonderful read that has me anxious for Til’ Death. We meet the hero and heroine for that book in Anguish and I, for one, am so excited to see what they are all about. The release for the Til’ Death can’t come fast enough for me.
“You stole my fuckin’ drugs.”
The foot at my throat presses me further into the cold, scratchy pavement. I gasp, my fingers clawing at fleshy ankles. His skin doesn’t budge; my nails are too short to break the flesh that I’m so desperately scraping at. It does nothing to move him, or send him on his way. Instead, he pushes harder, cutting off more of my air supply.
“That’s not exactly how it went down,” I croak, struggling.
“You were meant to deliver them; instead you fuckin’ sold them, and ran with the money.”
He’s right about that. I did take the drugs and sell them. I had good reason—my boyfriend was in trouble, and I was doing anything I could to get him out of trouble. I didn’t think ahead. I didn’t realize that I’d then owe a very unhappy drug dealer money. Not my finest moment, that’s for damned sure.
“I had no choice . . . I was helping someone I care about.”
He presses his boot down further into my throat, and my air supply narrows down to a dangerous level. My head pounds as the blood and oxygen are cut from my brain.
“I bet that person ain’t here helpin’ you tonight, now, are they?”
No, he’s right about that. Samuel is probably sleeping with someone else. The moment his debt was cleared, he left me. The dirty, cheap fucker left me. Now I’m dealing with the backlash. A furious drug dealer who wants his money.
Money I don’t have.
“Don’t I get,” I gasp, “one chance to get your money?”
He glares down at me through angry grey eyes. I squirm again as my vision starts flittering in and out. Shit, I’m going to pass out and he’s probably going to kill me, or worse, drag my helpless body away to do God knows what with.
“I have m-m-m-money,” I croak.
“If you had money, you wouldn’t have stolen my drugs.”
“I . . .” God, I’m on the edge. “I can get it. I s-s-s-swear.”
He stares at me, and for each second he does, my vision swims. Then, much to my relief, he lifts his boot off and reaches down, hurling my weak body up. He pulls me close, so close that our noses touch. My knees wobble and I have to push all my focus into not falling flat on my face and giving him another chance to take me.
“Listen, and listen fuckin’ good. You’ve got two weeks, and trust me, that’s me bein’ fuckin’ generous. Get my money, or I come for you.”
“Don’t try and run. You do, I’ll fuckin’ find you.”
I close my eyes, take a deep, burning breath and nod again.
Then he’s gone.
And I know . . . I just know . . . I’m in deep, deep shit.
