After one very long tour of duty in Afghanistan and an honorable discharge from the USMC, Elijah Preston comes home to nothing. He barely scrapes up enough money for a cheap motel in Quantico, Virginia, with no money-making opportunities in sight. A chance encounter in a local Walmart finally gives Eli hope for employment. Elijah is ready to sign on with Royce Mackey's proposition... until he hears what’s required. Royce operates a gay military porn site and wants Eli as his next star, never mind that Eli isn’t gay. Desperate and broke, Eli grudgingly accepts Royce’s offer and soon finds himself immersed in a strange new world.
Hamish Turner’s been there before. Taking Eli under his wing, he teaches him everything he can about Royce’s operation. The two quickly become friends, easing the way for their first scene together. Awkward at first, they both ease into it and find there is more of a connection between them than either expected. Curious to see where their mutual attraction takes them, they begin a relationship off-screen. But life gets complicated when a crazed fan of Hamish’s starts sending threatening letters demanding the scenes between the two men stop. Or else…
Monique & Macky Review
Monique: When I was doing the new releases post and spotted this one from Scotty Cade, I had to slap myself for having missed it… Hot military men and porn! Oh Yes! It had my name all over it!
Well, let me tell you, I had the biggest goofiest grin on my face reading this book. Eli’s exploration into the sexual side of gay for pay porn was just hilarious, all enhanced by Hamish’s wicked sense of humour and Royce’s love of all things MALE and SEX. And then I hit the porn shoot ménage scene. All of a sexual fluster, and not one to keep things to myself, (especially when it involves gay porn) as I’m definitely all about the sharing. I was on the phone to my mate Macky, demanding she read this fabulous book with me, even though she has a reading list as long as her arm!
Macky: Yep. As soon as you told me how much you were loving it I just had to drop everything and start it myself. And then, once I started reading, I knew straight away you were onto a winner. I was completely engaged from the moment we met Eli and yes...pretty soon I was wearing exactly the same goofy grin as you Mo! And you said the magic word "ménage". Haha. I know it's not the main focus of the romance, but ooooh baby I do love me some multiple man lovin' and this was placed beautifully into the book in a way that it never encroached on Eli and Hamish's blossoming love story, it just enhanced it.
Monique: Aww yes, but haha.... I knew I’d pull you in with hot sex and a ménage! And I agree, although this book is testosterone charged and highly erotic, it was so much more than that, it had a completely different feel to others I have read in the same trope and I think that was down to Scotty Cade’s writing style which was gentle with a sympathetic approach, subtle almost. You know when you pick up a book and your heart immediately goes out to the character, for no other reason than the author has such a way with words and you are totally drawn into their story, that’s what Scotty Cade did to me, and in Eli’s case, it’s not because he’s had a traumatic past… although his family do leave a lot to be desired. I don’t think I would have been quite so calm or resilient under the circumstances. It’s because Eli is so adorable, honest and true to himself and not in the least bit bitter or angry, such a likeable character, a little lost in civvie street but not through lack of trying. He’s just accepting of his circumstances, worn down and not being particularly worldly wise he seems to have nothing but a run of bad luck.
Macky: I know bless his torn tighty whities!!! My heart went out to him because let's be honest life isn’t giving him a break and after eight years in the Marine’s he finds himself with nothing to his name except his last cheque. But then, when he goes to Walmart to try to kit himself out as cheaply as he can...bless..he meets a really nice older chap called Royce, who understanding his plight, makes him an offer he actually does refuse at first but on reflection decides he might just have to take it up when his own plans don't seem to be working out. An offer that pulls him into the world of gay for pay and a set of ex military, straight guys who like himself are trying to make ends meet anyway they can.
Monique: There is an endearing camaraderie and closeness between Royce and the men who work for him all brought together by circumstances out of their control, a desperation, through which Royce and his website, gives them a means to get back on their feet. What I liked about his character Macky was that he could have come across as a slimy git, I mean, he totally gets off on being surrounded by all his military men and makes no apologies for it right from the start, but he’s not like that at all. In fact I felt Scotty Cade gave all the men a kind of dignity despite their chosen profession… and it was such a sweet fun read!
Macky: Aww, I totally agree Monique, I couldn't have said it better myself, I absolutely loved Royce and his boys. Nothing felt sleazy or grubby about the set up and considering the premise it could have, but all I felt was admiration for these very likable guys. This book made me feel good and that's why I didn't want to put it down.
Monique: Is it time to mention the sex yet?
Macky: Haha...Too bloody right it is! PORNTASTIC! I've been dying to tell the guys about those yummy sex scenes. OH MY! Talk about hotness! I think my temperature reached fever pitch. They were off the charts passionate and they did have me squirming, but in a good way. Somehow though, Scotty still managed to make them feel tender and romantic too. There was nothing tawdry about them at all. Hamish was the perfect partner for Eli and best of all he had a big cock Monique. Hahaha... I get to say COCK again!!!
Monique: *head desk*
Monique: Haha… do you think we could write a review without mentioning cocks?
Macky: One word...NO! LOL.
Monique: Haha… I’m getting back to the boys before you get carried away with cocks again! And… OMG YES!!!… the chemistry between these two men was off the charts sexy and erotic as hell as were the porn scenes filmed by Royce that felt very voyeuristic.... I love that!
Macky: Which brings us back to that delicious ménage scene which Eli got to watch. Wow, I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall for that! I loved that too Monique.
Monique: I also have to say the main sex scene between Eli and Hamish was so emotional, It actually had me welling up Macky, as did many of their other scenes in this book, I couldn’t help myself, the passion from these two was pulsing off the pages.
Macky: I was the same Mo. That particular love scene (and it was a love scene not just a hot fuck) was beautiful. I found myself getting dewy eyed countless times throughout the book but most of the time they were those tears you get when something touches you in a sappy way. As well as having a few panting moments, I found myself doing the "Awwww" thing a lot!
Monique: Yes! Exactly… how many times did we message "I’m welling up again" in this book!!
Macky: LOL. You mean at 3.30am in the morning because we couldn't put the bloody thing down!!!
Monique: Hahaha… Yes again! It was an addictive, hot, sweet and a beautiful read.
Macky: True. A lovely unexpected romance Monique, made all the better for the chemistry generated between its two main love interests; Eli was a sweetheart and Hamish was just adorable wasn't he?
Monique: Oh yes… jet black hair, blue eyes and totally built ...what’s not to love! He’s also such an intuitive, caring and extremely sexual character, but not in an overt way, I found it subtle and liked how he understood Eli’s conflicting emotions, his easy comfortable manner that eases Eli’s tension, conscience and dilemmas. I just LOVED Hamish Macky... and his wicked sense of humour which was not in the least bit dampened by his own troubles that had him resorting to porn as a source of income. I also liked how Hamish identifies as straight/bisexual, has no shame and in my opinion has the perfect attitude, no labels, just the right emotions with the right person.
Macky: Hamish, Hamish, Hamish!...I sighed, I swooned, I drooled!!!! Did you Mo Mo???
Monique: No, I swooned, I drooled and I sighed!
Macky: Do you not mean you drooled, sighed and swooned?
Monique: Hahaha… we can agree there was a lot of slobbering, heavy breathing and feeling giddy!
Macky: Hee hee... I dribbled, I squirmed and I had to use my asthma spray!!!!
Monique: Hahahaha … you’re such a floozy! But let’s not forget the laughing, crying, smiling and general feeling of happiness, with a lot of heart.
Macky: Oh yes! This book has a LOT of heart. Watching Eli's sexual awareness come alive among a group of men that treated him with nothing but respect, understanding and kindness, was compelling reading. So very well portrayed through the eyes of Eli. It was delicious.
Monique: After all that joy, pleasure and an all round fabulously amazing spectacular read which was oh so 5 star worthy, there was one part that didn’t quite work for me Macky and that was the ending, a little rushed after the underlying threat of danger that was introduced late on in the book it fell flat and was a little overly dramatic for me.
Macky: Yeah, unfortunately that caused the type of sighing that had a touch of eye rolling attached to it! I personally would have preferred the drama to have stayed around Eli's trepidation surrounding his sexuality and feelings that were growing for Hamish. Introducing the plot twist seemed a little incongruous and didn't really fit my final expectations but it was soooo enjoyable up to that point that I definitely forgive that blip. You're right... not quite 5 stars but I reckon 4.5 sweet, sexy stars for this gem of a book is a fair compromise. You think Monique?
Monique: Totally my friend… I loved this book wholeheartedly, but yes, I have to agree and I hate that after I enjoyed it so much. But I do have to say Macky, having never read a book by Scotty Cade before, I was totally impressed with his writing and ability to bring such lovable characters to life in Eli and Hamish. Drawing out so many emotions from me as a reader it was an absolute pleasure and delight to read.
