Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

From acclaimed m/m romance photographer, Dan Skinner, a coming of age tale unfolds against the colorful, stylish, and turbulent backdrop of free love, revolution, and The Beatles.
Two high school boys from different walks of life: Ryan, a handsome athlete, and David, an average joe from a blue collar family, discover their desires, stealing their kisses under the cover of an old oak at night. Their love begins a secret life, hidden from their families, friends, and classmates. As their passion grows, so does the danger of their discovery. Their only hope is to create a separate world where every kiss is a treasure and every moment... memorable.
First love. Secret love. Unforgettable love.

Mark’s Quick Bite

This story soars way above the normal romance trope either M/M or M/F in a class of it’s own. Maybe a sweeping statement I know, but that’s the way I feel. First class writing with a story that moves the reader to tears of despair and in the end joy! This book is one that you can identify with, feel the emotion and takes you back to an age of innocence and then innocence undone. It is categorised as a YA story, but it isn't, it's truly more than this. From the very beginning you know that this is a mature man reflecting on his youth and all the things that shaped him to the very person he is today.

This book is about forgiveness, how horrible teenagers can be to each other. About being strong and affecting change in others, believing and never giving up in what they have found in each other. Being hit hard by a real world, but dreaming of a better, more caring and loving world. About love and loss. About life! About the respect that love and commitment deserves between two human beings regardless of gender.

Slide (Roads #1) by Garrett Leigh

Rating ~ 4.5 Stars

Synopsis

Roads: Book One
Don’t look back. Don’t you ever look back…
Shy tattoo artist Ash has a troubled past. Years of neglect, drug abuse, and life on the streets have taken their toll, and sometimes it seems the deep, unspoken bond with his lover is the only balm for wounds he doesn’t quite understand.
Chicago paramedic Pete is warmth, love, and strength—things Ash never knew he could have, and never even knew he wanted until Pete showed him. But fate is a cruel, cruel mistress, and when nightmares collide with the present, their tentatively built world comes crashing down.
Traumatic events in Pete’s work life distance him from home, and he doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Ash has slipped away. Betrayal, secrets, and lies unfold, and when a devastating coincidence takes hold, Pete must fight with all he has to save the love of his life.

Monique’s Quick Bite

Back in October of last year this book was Garret Leigh’s debut novel, she has since gone from strength to strength, but it is Slide and the two main characters Ash and Pete that will always have a special place in my heart, as it kicked off the love I have for this incredibly talented author.

Garret Leigh’s characterisation of these two characters was excellent and you can’t help but fall in love with these two men, Ash is a boy so badly damaged he doesn’t know how to love, so lost that every day is a struggle and a new experience, but Pete envelopes him with loving care and kindness, patiently giving him the room to grow. Their love is soul deep and they are both overwhelmed by an emotion that neither had experienced before… and Garrett Leigh conveyed that perfectly. But it’s not all sadness there is also a camaraderie and and sense of fun that builds as their relationship does that left me smiling and laughing. Slide was one of my favourite reads of 2013, a definite must read!

Same Page (How the Light Gets In #1) by Lily Velden

719L 85aw1L._SL1350_

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

Book One: How the Light Gets In
He was like the only splash of color in a black-and-white photograph.
The man was beautiful.
At an exhibition opening in Sydney, jaded Hollywood heartthrob Jaxon Moncrieff lays eyes on publicity-shy artist Liam Lassiter for the first time and is immediately captivated. But he doesn’t get far into their first conversation before he realizes what he’s feeling is attraction, which brings him up short. Jaxon has always been a womanizer.
Despite his reservations, Jaxon makes a play for Liam, but Liam has his own issues. Unlucky in love and orphaned at sixteen, he is reluctant to open his heart to anyone, and dismisses Jaxon out of hand.
Driven by a need he doesn’t understand, Jaxon organizes a return to Sydney to film his next project. If he can’t be with Liam, maybe they can be friends. Of course, that creates a whole new problem. Now Jaxon is falling in love for the first time. How can he move their relationship from friends to lovers without destroying the trust he’s worked so hard for?

Macky’s Review

When gorgeous, US actor Jaxon Montcreif, who's 100%'straight, sets eyes on beautiful Australian artist Liam Lassiter at a gallery showing Liam's art, it's a surprising matter of love at first sight, as he finds himself totally smitten with this stunning man. It's a totally unexpected reaction for him ...but not so much for Liam who has no time for the film star believing him to be just another superficial guy who's playing him for a fool so he dismisses him, leaving Jaxon in a state of unrequited lust and longing for months until circumstances contrive to bring them back together again, giving Jaxon another chance to convince the man who he can't stop thinking about, that he's really serious about wanting to be with him In a romantic way, but to do that they have to form a friendship first and then let love grow through trust as Liam has some personal baggage he's carrying around with him...plus there's the fact that Jaxon is in the public eye whilst Liam prefers to stay in the background.....

How they finally get together is so romantic it had me tingling and sighing all the way through. I fell hard for these two endearing characters whose road to true love wasn't always an easy one but it sure was off the scale sexy! Sensual and passionate and oh so romantic it had me tingling and sighing all the way through. I adore how Lily writes, for me the chemistry she generates between her beautiful boys is always tangible and her love scenes are just scrumptious, and the cover was one of my favourites of last year...I could stare into that exquisite blue eye forever! I loved these guys and this story and fell even harder when book 2 ...'The Race Is On'...arrived! Sublime!
