Wealthy, attractive Lucas Reika treats life like a party, moving from bar to bar and man to man. Thumbing his nose at his restaurateur father's demand that he earn his keep, Lucas instead seduces a valued employee in the kitchen of their flagship restaurant, earning himself an ultimatum: lose access to his father's money or stay in the middle of nowhere with a man he has secretly lusted over from afar.
Quiet, hard-working Jared McFarland loves his farm on the outskirts of Hope, Arizona, but he aches to have someone to come home to at the end of the day. Jared agrees to take in his longtime crush as a favor. But when Lucas invades his heart in addition to his space, Jared has to decide how much of himself he's willing to risk and figure out if he can offer Lucas enough to keep him after his father's punishment is over.

Macky’s Review

A fab start to a new series that encompasses CC's header promising:

'Heartwarming stories. Strong relationships. Forever love.'

McFarland's Farm

Tick! Tick! Tick!... That's me ticking those three boxes and smiling contentedly while I do it. I'm in feel good heaven and basking in the glow of that 'love at first read' feeling once again! It's no secret I'm a big CC fan. Have been since the first Cardeno book I picked up and each new one that comes out is a guaranteed auto-read. McFarlands Farm is novella length, perfect to pick up and read as a bedtime story and that's how I decided to read it. Snuggled up in bed with my Kindle Paperwhite, lights out, backlight muted...all nice and cosy and ready to chill out with my story before I closed my eyes. And I read it all in one satisfying session!

Jared McFarland and Lucas Reika! What can I tell you about these two guys without getting too spoilery? Well if you read the blurb you'll get a decent idea of what's going to happen and why Lucas ends up staying with Jared but what you won't realise is just how much of a spoilt brat Lucas is when the story begins. Talk about being an absolute dick and pain in the ass! Even his sister, Jared's ex wife hasn't got great things to say about him...

"...Lucas is an entitled, self absorbed, lazy, snobby prick..."

...But that was what made the relationship between them work so well for me. I have a big thing for enemies to lovers pairings, it's a trope that I always think generates some amazing sexual tension between its protagonists and there were no disappointments on that side between Jared and Lucas, except this sexual tension bubbles under the surface, kept sizzling because Jared is quiet and pretty non confrontational by nature, so at the start Lucas' behavior seems even more disgraceful, making him a character who you'd really love to slap a few times. What neither of them know though, is that they've both been secretly lusting for each other for a while, so... being forced together over a two month period; just the two of them in the same house, is obviously a sexual explosion waiting to happen, and knowing Cardeno's 'sexpertise' in that area... I was mentally rubbing my hands in glee!

Jared is such a sweetie. Married young, but divorced after both of them realised their marriage was a sham, he's stayed good friends with Susan, his ex, and still supplies his father in laws restaurants with the organic produce he grows on his farm. He works hard, runs a successful business but ultimately he's a lonely soul. Big, work worn and scarred from an accident, he sees himself as a bit of a clumsy giant, so doesn't think of himself as a catch for anyone. He just gets on with his life, yearning for that certain (male) someone to come home to, scratching the odd itch with rare anonymous hook ups but ultimately he's resigned himself to the fact that he'll probably never find 'the one'.

The only thing men in bars wanted from a six foot five, beefy guy with shaggy red hair and an imperfect face was a hard fuck in a dark corner with their backs to him.

When he's given the news that his gorgeous, errant brother-in-law is going to be his houseguest, (under sufference) for the next couple of months he's thrown into a bit of a tizz! Vice versa for Lucas, who is totally pissed at his father for punishing him for being gay...or that's how he sees it. So even though he's desired his strong, silent, hunky brother-in-law for ages, he's still furious at being sent to the back of beyond, and that's the sulky, petulant guy who Jared picks up when he arrives in Hope, Jared's home town. Then to make matters worse, to be in close proximity to the sexy man he fantasises about but thinks he can't have, just adds fuel to the annoyance churning inside him about the situation he's been forced into.

Lucas couldn't look at his former brother-in-law without drooling. First off, the man was huge; not just tall, but massive. His shoulders were so broad and arms so long and thick that Lucas often envisioned being engulfed in Jared's embrace and hidden from the world.

I imagine you'll have been joining the dots and guessing what happens along the way as the two of them do the dance of lust filled attraction around each other... and I'm pretty sure you've got a damn good idea how it all ends but that doesn't spoil the sheer pleasure of riding alongside them as they get there. I loved it. A touch of tension, a dash of discord, a steady stream of sizzle and steam, and some off the charts chemistry, makes this highly entertaining and another winner for me. My only complaint...I could have read on a lot longer! It's a novella so I suppose the transition from their antagonistic attraction to giving in to their feelings had to happen sooner than later because of the books length but I'd loved to have spent more time with them in the early, rockier, tangibly tense part of their relationship before they succumbed to temptation. The thing is I'm always a bit miffed when a Cardeno C story ends because I always get totally lost in this authors storylines and characters, and the love/hate relationship Jared and Lucas had going on at the beginning really hooked me in... It was of course I wanted more! Greedy reader syndrome strikes again!

So who else in Hope is going to get their story told. Personally I'm dying to know. please!
