Title: Keep Me (Twist Me, #2)
Author: Anna Zaires
Genre: Dark Erotic Romance
Release Date: September 30, 2014
Abducted at eighteen. Held captive for 15 months.
It reads like one of those headlines. And yes, I did it. I stole her. Nora, with her long dark hair and silky skin. She’s my weakness, my obsession.
I’m not a good man. I never pretended to be one. She can love me, but she can’t change me.
I can, however, change her.
My name is Julian Esguerra, and Nora is mine to keep.
***Keep Me is the sequel to Twist Me, told from Nora & Julian’s POV.***
“It’s futile to fight against one’s destiny…..”
Keep Me by Anna Zaires is book two in her Twist Me series, a sordid tale about a young woman who is taken captive at the age of eighteen. This is a moderately dark, fall in love with your captor romance series that I believe appeals to many readers, including those that don’t necessarily venture into the more adventurous darker erotica reads. While the premise of the story definitely has darker undertones, the execution of it is more along the lines of intense erotica/bdsm. The undercurrents that move the story along are more romantic in nature in my opinion rather than the focus being on the horrific things a captor can do to his/her captive and because of this I once again will state that I believe this series holds a wider appeal than most novels classified as “dark erotica”. This second installment picks up right where book one ended. Nora is back in the clutches of Julian. This time, however, she is not necessarily going with him as a reluctant captive.
Now that Nora Leston is back in the hands of Julian Esguerra, he is going to do everything in his power to ensure that she will never be taken from him ever again. They travel to Colombia to the childhood home/estate where Julian was raised. This is an impenetrable fortress where no one can get to Nora, nor can she escape. Nora continues to be led down a path of sexual exploration, there to fulfill Julian’s sexual needs and cravings. She no longer is putting up much of a fight and no longer tries to put a stop to all that Julian does to her. She willingly gives her body and mind to her captor all the while realizing that he is continuing to mold her into someone to please him and also someone that has the same dark desires that he does. The fine line between pleasure and pain continues to be blurred and Nora finds that she craves Julian’s cruelty just as much as she needs his tenderness. As Nora becomes more deeply immersed into Julian’s world and slowly starts to realize just how powerful he is and all that he is capable of, can she handle all that she learns and stand by his side? With outside forces determined to get to Julian and see him dead, will he be able to ensure Nora’s safety and keep her by his side?
“It used to bother me, this obsessive craving, but now I’m used to it. I’ve accepted my own madness.”
“I’ve succeeded in what I set out to do. I’ve made her completely mine.”
“Something about her calms my demons, makes me feel almost normal. Almost….happy.”
What I enjoyed about book two is that we also get Julian’s POV. It was wonderful to dive into his thought processes and to truly see just how deep and perverse his obsession with the lovely Nora goes. His feelings for Nora grow and become more intense, if that is even possible. Somewhere deep inside Julian struggles with the fact that he abducted Nora and is molding her into someone he wants her to become, someone who is as obsessed with him as he is with her. However, the cold, enigmatic man that we have all grown to
hate love is still the dominant personality. He needs Nora and is relentless in his pursuit to keep her. She is all his and he intends to keep it that way. He has finally found someone he desperately craves and nothing will stand in his way of conquering all of her. Really…I mean that….nothing!
“There’s no one to stop him from doing anything he wants with me, no safe word that I can use to enforce my limits.”
I definitely enjoyed the narrative and think it was well executed. I also continue to think that Anna Zaires has done a wonderful job of getting into the mind of “Nora the captive” and exploring the contradictory mental state that she often finds herself in. Nora obviously still struggles with the extremity of her feelings for Julian. Her feelings are definitely dual in nature. She hates him for taking her from her life and exerting such dominant control over all that she is; but, simultaneously, she is mesmerized and enthralled with all that is being done to her by this powerful man. Julian is all consuming and Nora can’t help but keep following him into his tangled web of perversion and obsession. Nora may no longer be the wide-eyed captive she once was; however, just how far is she willing to go to stay with a man who inhabits a world full of danger and darkness?
All in all, Keep Me is a wonderful addition to this series. It was a book with quite a number of surprises and moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. I am definitely looking forward to the next book (Hold Me) due out sometime in 2015.
