Science major Brad Jergens notices Jordy Fleming at school and at the grocery store where he works, but with the heat Jordy’s boyfriend emits, Brad doesn’t think he stands a chance. When Brad’s parents drag him along on a cruise, he and Jordy literally crash into each other, and the chemistry between them sends sparks flying. Unfortunately, as the weeklong cruise nears an end too quickly, Brad’s left to wonder if their mutual attraction will dissipate on a Caribbean breeze as soon as they return to dry land.
All aboard the LOVE BOAT for a romantic cruise around the Caribbean. Brad always admires from afar but when it actually comes to chatting anybody up, he gets completely tongue tied and normally doesn’t get a word over his lips. Oh how I know this feeling especially when you find someone attractive that you feel will never be interested in you because you don’t have enough confidence in yourself. Especially when you think that you aren’t good looking or interesting enough and what would said person possibly see in me. This is Brad’s problem and I found this endeared me to him immediately. He is a little nerdy but totally lovable, one of those characters you could really imagine having a fun time with once you get to know him.
Jordy is at the same college but doesn’t really notice Brad as he already in a relationship with one of the football players, is confident and out. A turn of events brings them together and they discover that they get on well together and this in turn develops into a sweet on board romance.
Brad’s parents are going on a week’s cruise during Thanksgiving and he brings his best friend Helen. I loved Helen, a girl from a poor background, but always positive, upbeat and hardworking. She also has a wicked sense of humour, so if you don’t have a boyfriend then what do you do? Of course, you take your best friend! Helen’s joy about being able to go on such a holiday of her dreams was completely infectious. When you come from having nothing then you really appreciate great things when they happen to you. I just loved the way she managed to find a way to make everything possible. I really admired her for her tenacity to get on and make a future for herself.
She also loves Brad like a brother but nothing more. This I find the best thing about having a close female friend, being gay myself we always seem to find our soul sister and that is exactly what Helen is to Brad.
Brad’s mum is always still hoping that he’ll find a girl and I just loved the way that Andrew writes about this. Brad’s dad is more realistic with his son’s sexuality than his mum. You know his mum doesn't mean it and loves Brad totally, but she hopes that he might find a young lady that’ll turn his head. I love how this was reflected, unintentionally his mum hurts his feelings sometimes by her over exuberance that Brad is bringing a girl on holiday with him. He tries telling her Helen is his closest friend and will not be anything else. But Brad puts up with it as he knows she doesn’t really mean it. This led to a wonderful moment later in the book where the love of mother and son really shines through. They both have a real mother son heart-to-heart that left me with a warm glow all over. Lovely!
Jordy happens to be on the boat with his parents and younger sister too. Once Brad and Helen spots him Helen gives Brad the push he needs. I loved the way Helen is always encouraging him to speak to Jordy. W all need a little push from good friends and Helen is a master at it. I could so see that without Helen Brad would never have worked up the gumption to speak to anyone he fancies I reckon.
While they are on board ship for the week they have time to get to know each other until the attraction can no longer be denied once Brad sees that Jordy also feels the same way. I loved the whole backdrop of a Caribbean cruise liner. I have never been on such a cruise but it sounds like pure luxury, a dream, and I guess if you are going to fall in love then there’s no better place to do it. A real holiday romance.
This story is a light-hearted and relatively quick read, just took me a little over three hours. So a perfect read on the beach while sunning yourself and soaking up the rays on holiday. So when you’re backing for your next holiday make sure you have this one in your eBook suitcase. After reading this I was definitely in a holiday mood for sure.
