Everyone has one.
Some are bigger than others.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you ...
And some will end you.
Kate Sedgwick’s life has been anything but typical. She’s endured hardship and tragedy, but throughout it all she remains happy and optimistic (there’s a reason her best friend Gus calls her Bright Side). Kate is strong-willed, funny, smart, and musically gifted. She’s also never believed in love. So when Kate leaves San Diego to attend college in the small town of Grant, Minnesota, the last thing she expects is to fall in love with Keller Banks.
They both feel it.
But they each have a reason to fight it.
They each have a secret.
And when secrets are revealed,
Some will heal you …
And some will end you.

Lorie’s  Review

This book.

This book.

DUDE, this book!

Ugh.  The feelings just won’t go away!!!  DARN BOOK!

Damn it!  I hate books like this.  Books that….

… make you ugly cry so hard you embarrass yourself on the train.

… make it hard to concentrate on life when your thoughts are consumed by fictional characters.

… shatter your heart into a million, bazillion, gazillion pieces without a second thought.

… ruin you for any book that comes after.

I guess I really shouldn't say books like this because there are no books like this. Bright Side is a rare gem. It’s like the endangered species of the book world. Yes, it’s simple, but Kim Holden’s storytelling ability and the characters are what makes it EXTRAORDINARY.

There’s no sense really even talking about the story itself because this book isn't about the story. It's about the characters. Each and every single one plays a part in making this book what it is, but the one person at the heart of this story is Kate Sedgwick. Kate IS the story…..

You’re always asked what you want to be when you grow up. A teacher, writer, doctor, artist? I want to be Kate Sedgwick when I grow up. Well, it may be too late for the growing up part, but I still want to be Kate. This girl is utterly fabulous! Kate is so sweet and funny! She is flipping fantastic – cute, quirky, and waaaay too happy.

“She’s the poster child for positivity. She’s a freaking ray of sunshine. She doesn’t just look on the bright side… She lives there.”

Kate is such a brilliantly wonderful character. She makes you happy just reading this book. I had a goofy smile plastered on my face – I just couldn’t help it. She's the friend you call when you've had a shitty day or when your boyfriend is being an ass. She's all about caring for others and makes the most of every second. Kate is the person you wish you could be more like. If you were, you might just smile a little bit more, roll with life's punches no matter how big, and learn to always look at the bright side.

“I’m always looking forward toward the future…..I can’t afford not to. The future is all I have.”

“Today, my life is awesome.”

Kim Holden’s writing is phenomenal and witty, not to mention intelligent and fabulous. Who even uses the word Shangri-la anymore??? Kim Holden! That's who! Her intelligence and wit shine through in her writing. I think the highlight feature on my Kindle is now broken. It's a huge feat to create such an amazing book out of a simple story about life. I am just in awe of Kim Holden. She's one of those authors that if I met in person I would probably make a complete ass of myself because of the unintelligible things that would spew from my mouth.

I love the cover of Bright Side because it reminds me of How To Kill A Rock Star. It’s simple but, just like HTKARS, between the covers awaits one of the most EPIC stories you will ever read! Bright Side is a book I will make my kids read when they grow up. There are just so many life lessons here that I couldn't possibly begin to teach my own kids with the same conviction and pure heart that Kate can. This book has the power to change the reader. If it doesn't change you in at least some small way, then you can't possibly have a heart. I honestly think if just a small portion of the population read Bright Side, we would be living in a better and more compassionate world with people who aren't merely concerned about themselves.

If you're looking for a therapeutic cry session, skip the shrink. Spend $2.99 and read Bright Side instead. Let it all out. This book is therapy! Cry until you’re heart’s content. I sure did!!! After this, I need a sexy hot bang-me-so-hard-until-I-can’t-see-straight book to balance out all the tears I cried with this one. Fabulous job Kim Holden!!!

There can't possibly ever be another Bright Side……

My new motto is: What would Kate Sedgwick do?
