Blessed Isle by Alex Beecroft
Rating ~ 5 Stars
A timeless love as dangerous as the sea....
For Captain Harry Thompson, the command of the prison transport ship HMS Banshee is his opportunity to prove his worth, working-class origins be damned. But his criminal attraction to his upper-crust First Lieutenant, Garnet Littleton, threatens to overturn all he’s ever worked for.
Lust quickly proves to be the least of his problems, however. The deadly combination of typhus, rioting convicts, and a monstrous storm destroys his prospects...and shipwrecks him and Garnet on their own private island. After months of solitary paradise, the journey back to civilization -- surviving mutineers, exposure, and desertion -- is the ultimate test of their feelings for each other.
These two very different men each record their story for an unfathomable future in which the tale of their love -- a love punishable by death in their own time -- can finally be told. Today, dear reader, it is at last safe for you to hear it all.
Note: This is a revised, stand-alone edition of the story originally published in the Hidden Conflict anthology in 2009.
Mark’s Quick Bite
It is a rare thing to find an M/M historical romance that ticks off all the boxes, but this week my Quick Bite has to be Blessed Isle by Alex Beecroft. I don't possess enough adjectives or superlatives to describe how I feel about this book. Beautiful, amazing, breath-taking, divine, gorgeous, exquisite, pulchritudinous (looked that one up!), magnificent, stunning, delightful, elated, I could continue forever. I just didn't want this book to end.
This book is written as a journal, each character being a chapter or journal entry. This was a wonderful notion, it was like readng someone's personal diary and getting to know their innermost thoughts and feelings. However, it was not disjointed, Harry's journal entry always picking up nicely and relating to something in Garnet's and vice versa. A way of sharing, a joint dairy with individual perspectives. All in all a beautiful and totally enthralling read that will stay with me for a long time.

Change of Heart: Book One
As a young gay man—and a werepanther—all Jin Rayne yearns for is a normal life. Having fled his past, he wants nothing more than to start over, but Jin’s old life doesn’t want to let him go. When his travels bring him to a new city, he crosses paths with the leader of the local were-tribe. Logan Church is a shock and an enigma, and Jin fears that Logan is both the mate he fears and the love of his life. Jin doesn’t want to go back to the old ways, and mating would irrevocably tie him to them.
But Jin is the mate Logan needs at his side to help him lead his tribe, and he won’t give Jin up so easily. It will take time and trust for Jin to discover the joy in belonging to Logan and how to love without restraint.
Macky’s Quick Bite
Oh my...Jin and Logan. Just thinking about these two makes me tingle from head to toe! RAWR! Talk about palpable sexual tension! But it's not all about that with this fantasy treat. The love scenes are hot, hot, hot and the bond between them as a mated couple is even more tangible than ever, which makes for a fantastic m/m romance but at the same time, all the way through the series (which to be honest just gets better and better) it's choc full of clever plots, thrills, drama, excitement, intrigue and non stop action. I'd go as far as to say this is probably my favourite paranormal series overall. These are gorgeous, slinky, sexy man-panthers and part of what I loved most of all about it was the indepth world building that Mary graces her felines with. It's Egyptian influence and culture just perfect for them as cat shifters. There's real thought gone into its construction and I was glued to my kindle from the first sentence of book one to the last in book four. I don't remember it slumping at any point; Jins transformation and the strength of his and Logan's love which endures all over the whole set of books, making it unputdownable. Every character in it vibrant and important in their own right to the progression of the ongoing thread....even the bad guys! It was love at first read... and second..and I'm pretty sure it will be on a third...and fourth ...in fact where's my kindle!?!

Hunter of Demons (SPECTR book #1) by Jordan L. Hawk
Rating ~ 4 Stars
Unregistered paranormal Caleb Jansen only wants a normal life. But when a demon murders his brother, Caleb knows he has to avenge Ben's death, no matter what the cost. Unfortunately, his only allies belong to an extremist group who would kill Caleb if they found out about his talent.
Gray is a wandering spirit, summoned to hunt and destroy demons by drinking their blood. This hunt goes horribly wrong, and for the first time in his existence Gray is trapped in a living, human body. Caleb's body...and Caleb is still in it.
Hotshot federal agent John Starkweather thinks he's seen it all. But when he's called to exorcise Caleb, he finds a creature which isn't supposed to exist outside of stories. For Gray is a drakul: a vampire.
Having spent his life avoiding the government as an unregistered 'mal, Caleb can't let himself trust a federal exorcist, no matter how sexy. And he certainly isn't going to give into the heat growing between them and sleep with Starkweather.
Can Starkweather win Caleb's trust and convince him he isn't the enemy? Can Caleb keep Gray under control, as the drakul experiences the temptation of a living body for the first time?
Because if he fails and Gray gives in to bloodlust, Starkweather will have no choice but to kill them both.

Monique’s Quick Bite
This novella is such a little gem and I can’t believe it’s currently a free download over on Amazon. The writing is excellent, imaginative and lyrical in it’s rendition. I just love it when I pick up a book and it takes me completely by surprise, and Hunter of Demons did exactly that. It is very much the first book in a series, where the seeds have been sewn, and hopefully with the tender loving care of the author, this world she has created has grown to it’s full potential. And I, for one, have downloaded the rest of the books, ready to consume.
The most intriguing character for me is Gray, an unknown entity and totally misunderstood. He is a drakul, a vampire only this myth and concept is so far removed from how we have so far seen these paranormal beings. He has such a haunting quality to him, I loved his wonderment and sincerity, his total honesty and how he see’s the world, he had only previously had contempt for, through new senses and understanding, along with his inner musings was all just fascinating stuff and compelling reading. This vivid style of writing from Jordan Hawk did not only assault Gray and Caleb’s senses but also mine as a reader. Visually this book is stunning, combine that with the prose and you have the beginning of a story that has already crawled under my skin.
