Title: Taming The Storm (The Storm, #3)
Author: Samantha Towle
Genre: Rocker Romance
Release Date: July 1, 2014
Lyla Summers hates men. Okay, maybe hate is a strong word … Lyla intensely dislikes men.
Her father has let her down her whole life. Her brother betrayed her in the worst way possible. And her past relationship experiences with men have been less than great.
Lyla is focussing all her energy into her band, Vintage, so when they receive an offer to sign with TMS Records, it seems that things are finally turning around for her. The last thing she wants is a man getting in the way.
Tom Carter loves women. Okay, love might be pushing it … Tom enjoys screwing lots of women.
When tragedy befalls his best friend, Tom finds himself making a promise to the big man upstairs – he’ll change his ways, if he saves the woman his best friend loves.
Tom’s prayer is answered. Now he has to change. Which means no sleeping around.
After Vintage’s manager breaks her leg skiing, Tom steps in as tour manager, and Lyla finds herself on tour with the man whore of rock.
Put one perpetually horny Tom and one sex resistant Lyla together, equals a recipe for disaster. Or so you’d think…
But an unexpected friendship is formed. A closeness neither of them expected. Putting one chastity belt and one lamp that is in desperate need of rubbing, to the test.
Will the sex storm that is Tom Carter, finally find himself tamed by the rock chick with a hardened heart, or will he go back to his womanizing ways…?
Taming the Storm is book 3 in the Mighty Storm series and works perfectly well as a standalone although I can highly recommend the first two books in this series if you haven’t yet read them. This book is the story of Tom Carter – manwhore extraordinaire who slept his way through hoards of groupies in the first two books but, despite all this, he’s been a little bit of a lovable rogue. Very charming and funny but just a little too cocksure of himself.
I have to confess that I didn’t really know what to expect of Tom’s story – after all he is a total manslut (or mut as Lyla calls him) and I had fallen so hard for Jake Wethers that it was impossible to think that anyone could come close in the fictional Rock God stakes and it’s impossible not to make comparisons so this needed to be special to stand out and it sure as heck is. I fell hook, line and sinker for bad boy Tom and Samantha Towle definitely has another winner on her hands. Tom really does step out of Jake Wether’s lengthy shadow and I loved every second I spent with him and Lyla.
Tom is working for Jake’s record company as tour manager for up and coming band, Vintage the lead singer of which, Lyla, is pretty much the only girl to have ever turned Tom down. Vintage had opened for The Mighty Storm in the past and Tom has seen Lyla and he wants her. Badly. Lyla, for her part, has had her fair share of fuckwits where men are concerned and is absolutely not going to accept the advances of a mut like Tom, however strongly she finds herself drawn to him. And so we begin, on the pressure cooker of a tour bus, Tom and Lyla stalking around one another, seriously attracted to one another, struggling to resist and Lyla determined to prove to one and all that she seriously dislikes Tom despite her incredible attraction to him.
I so enjoyed this storyline – it’s classic romance. Ever since Mr Darcy declared his dancing partner, Elizabeth, barely tolerable, the instant dislike between the two main protagonists has been a winning formula and it’s done so well here. I loved the way that Tom was so cocky, that he was so determined he was going to get Lyla to succumb to his charms and that she was dead set against it ever happening. They resist for so long that the sexual tension was off the charts – I was desperate for these two to get together. We know how good they’ll be together, Tom knows how good they’ll be together, even the other band members can see how good it could be – only Lyla needs convincing and she resists for the longest time despite nearly combusting from arousal every time Tom is near.
Tom is a tour de fource – yes, he’s been a total manwhore and unashamedly so but he’s never made any false promises to these girls and, despite his philandering ways, he’s really very likeable. Of course, it helps that he’s hotter than Vesuvius and sexy as hell and he’s incredibly fascinated by Lyla, his firecracker, and feels a strong gravitational pull towards her and she brings out the most protective and possessive instincts in him – attributes none of us really knew he had.
Lyla’s a real sweetheart too – she’s been hurt badly in the past by those she loved and trusted and is incredibly scared of allowing Tom into her life and she is quick to distrust and think the worst and this, inevitably, leads to fireworks as Sam Towle leads us down a tumultuous and incredibly steamy path. Of course, this turns from simmering sexual tension to something far deeper and so incredibly touching despite their agreement that this is only temporary and ends when the tour does. It’s a beautiful, touching and incredibly sexy love story and it’s so good to see a dedicated player like Tom finally have the scales fall from his eyes and see what is right in front of him – the love of his life!
Beautifully done, another winner from Sam Towle – 5 sexy stars!
“But you said…” I frown.
He gives a slow shrug of his shoulders. “Never intended to sleep with her. I was just”—Tom rubs his head thoughtfully and then smirks—“putting on a show.”
He played me.
All that in there—he was just doing it to drive my jealousy to the front.
“You-you’re a…mother-effing mut!” I hiss.
“Yeah, and you’re the sexiest fucking thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Sleep well, Firecracker.”
