PLAN B by SJD Peterson

Rating ~ 4 Stars

Synopsis

Danny Marshal has always lived his life out loud, but his androgynous appearance is only a small part of who he is. One night at a frat party, Danny meets Lance Lenard, football jock and apparent straight guy. Lance is shocked when he's immediately attracted to Danny's feminine side. Danny is happy to be the subject of Lance's first man-on-man experiment—until Lance begins to struggle with the fact that despite his appearance, Danny is indeed a man.
Lance's whole life has been focused on his goal of playing in the NFL, and he knows those dreams will be smashed if anyone finds out about his little secret. Although Lance has come to hunger for Danny's touch, he's not willing to give Danny what he's grown to crave: a boyfriend who's proud to love him for every flamboyant and snarky cell in his body.
Life sends Danny and Lance in different directions, each of them focused on his respective Plan A. But the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

Monique’s Quick Bite

This is a stunningly executed character driven, emotional drama, which delves deep into souls of two very unlikely MC’s. Ms Peterson did not leave me wanting for a moment in this book, I eagerly turned the pages to delve into the world of Danny and Lance, poles apart, with nothing in common, yet we see misconstrued perceptions change and a relationship borne of secrecy develop, with both men unable to abate the attraction they have for each other. It is also a journey of discovery for our two very complex characters, putting their differences aside they find an unlikely friendship blossom and grow and with Lance having no prior experience with men, they were like a couple of teenagers experimenting for the first time, with the sexual tension between them palpable and left me holding my breath in anticipation… I just loved Danny and Lance!

The Return by Brad Boney

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

Music. Topher Manning rarely thinks about anything else, but his day job as a mechanic doesn't exactly mesh with his rock star ambitions. Unless he can find a way to unlock all the songs in his head, his band will soon be on the fast track to obscurity.

Then the South by Southwest music festival and a broken-down car drop New York critic Stanton Porter into his life. Stanton offers Topher a ticket to the Bruce Springsteen concert, where a hesitant kiss and phantom vibrations from Topher’s cell phone kick off a love story that promises to transcend ordinary possibility.

Macky’s Quick Bite

Last week my quick bite was 'The Nothingness Of Ben' a story I loved, so this week was a no brainer because The Return, which is the follow up, blew me away even more! I found this a very special read and the reason for that is really hard to explain because let too much out of the bag about this and it will ruin it's uniqueness. This is not just any love story, it's unusual and unexpected. The essence and soul of it something surprising. Something I think everyone should discover just for themselves.

Topher and Stanton are the main focus but there are many wonderful supporting characters, including Ben, Travis and the teen brothers from book one, whose profound significance to the story make them just as much an important factor in how the story unfolds as the main guys in the story. A tale told in flashback and present day, all these characters lives interweave and connect in an unbelievably clever way and at the finish I was left emotionally exhausted but in total awe of Brad Boney's ability to to weave such an amazing, compelling, poignant story together. It could have been over complicated but for me it just flowed and I couldn't stop reading. I loved the voices of the characters because Brad has a way of making you really listen to them. The guys in this talk a lot but the conversations were erudite and witty and I wanted to be there...joining in on those conversations...playing their signature game that showed how close a friendship they all shared. Finally there's the music. Bruce 'The Boss' Springsteen plays a massive part in this and the way he does is another big plus for the book whether you love his music or not. Dealing with some pretty sad issues, one in particular that reared it's ugly head in the eighties, this will pull at your heart strings but amazingly it never felt maudlin, gloomy or overly angst ridden. I adored this so much, and knowing who is probably going to be the centre of the next book all I can say is get the Kleenex ready because that one is going to be a real tearjerker! I would have tripled my 5 star rating on it, if I could have!

Opening Moves (Chess #1) by Sean Michael

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

Rook, Knight and Bishop have been searching for a fourth man to join their threesome for quite a while when Knight meets Jason, the live model in the art class he's auditing. He thinks that Jason is the perfect man for them and his lovers Rook and Bishop quickly agree. The trick will be convincing Jason...

Join these sexy men as they make their Opening Moves.

Tina’s Quick Bite

Opening Moves is the first book of the Chess series and it’s about a solid ménage MMM family inviting a forth for one year. The characters have individual personalities and they also have an unique way of loving each other within the ménage. They all bring different strengths to the table, and different needs in each man are fulfilled by each of the partners. The sex has a good bit of variety, we see different combinations of partners and different configurations, some vanilla, some kinky, some rough, some sweet.
Overall, the chess series is a short and easy read without too much drama, it’s pure erotica with an actual plot and really lovable characters. You can just read this book as a standalone or all five books of the series. So if you want to read a book full of fluff and smut, this one might be the right one for you.

On a Lee Shore by Elin Gregory

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

“Give me a reason to let you live…”
Beached after losing his ship and crew, and with England finally at peace, Lt Christopher Penrose will take whatever work he can get. A valet? Why not? Escorting an elderly diplomat to the Leeward Islands seems like an easy job, but when their ship is boarded by pirates, Kit’s world is turned upside down. Forced aboard the pirate ship, Kit finds himself juggling his honor with his desire to stay alive among the crew, not to mention the alarming—yet enticing—captain, known as La Griffe.
Kit has always obeyed the rules, but as the pirates plunder their way across the Caribbean, he finds much to admire in their freedom. He deplores their lawlessness but is drawn to their way of life, and begins to think he might just have found a purpose. Dare he dream of finding love too? Or would loving a pirate take him too far down the road to ruin?

Mark’s Quick Bite

Forget Jack Sparrow. Meet La Griffe. A pirate to swoon for, but not a ladies man. His eyes are firmly fixed on other shores! The plot is intricate and not only do the pirates have to contend with avoiding the navy but also have to deal with another pirate; Jago captain of the Garnet. After a joint attack and stealing a Spanish vessel laden with treasure the men forget some of their values and are blinded by the riches on the ship. Avarice raises its ugly head and forces Jago to behave in an abominable way which goes against many pirates' codex. Then the chase is on to right what has been wronged.

For me it is a well rounded historical novel with an m/m romance theme, rather than a m/m romance with an historical theme. There is an HEA and even La Griffe has one last surprise up his sleeve at the end. The romance theme is definitely there for sure, but it doesn't over shadow the life that such people led in those days.

A great historical pirate romp with an M/M Romance thrown in - brilliant!
