“Love must not suffocate, but breathe on its own.”
For Fallon is book one in Soraya’s Naomi’s Chicago Syndicate series and it is also this author’s debut novel. I really had no idea what to expect when diving into this book, but I can say I was pleasantly surprised. Soraya Naomi has written a great mafia romantic suspense full of drama, intrigue, betrayal, passion and lies.
Twenty-five year old Fallon Michaels is someone who has gone after her dreams and has made them happen. Living in Chicago with her best friend, Fallon has landed her dream job and is loving the big city life. Fallon’s life irrevocably changes one night when she meets a gorgeous and mysterious stranger. Their first interaction marks her but she does not really expect to see him ever again. When she keeps running in to the alluring and green-eyed man, she can’t help but fall. What Fallon did not know was that she was falling into his web of lies and deceit.
Twenty-nine year old Luca DeMiliano leads a violent and complicated life having to wear a mask and keep up appearances to the outside world. The façade he hides behind daily can be cumbersome and tiring; however, Luca has no other choice. For better or worse he lives the life of a Mafioso. He may not have chosen the life he leads but he knows there is no way out for him outside of death itself. Luca is immediately intrigued by Fallon when he first sees her. He is only supposed to be watching her. It’s his job. Luca simply can’t get involved with her. But, how do you stay away from someone who burrows deep under your skin and stays there?
“Based on a lie, love will never have a chance to survive. Based on a lie, love dies before it can blossom.”
Luca works his way into Fallon’s life. They get to know one another and an intense and passionate relationship develops. But can the fragile beginnings of their relationship survive when their foundation is built upon lies and deceit? It is only a matter of time before everything that Luca is attempting to shield Fallon from surfaces out into the open. It is only a matter of time before he is caught in one of his many lies and is unmasked. When everything begins to unravel will Fallon walk away leaving Luca alone once more? Or, is she harboring secrets of her own?
“I will do anything to keep her. I’m prepared to do anything to protect her.”
I will admit that this is a story that was a slow build for me, particularly the beginning. The first half of the book deals mostly with Fallon and Luca getting to know one another. The second half of the book things get intense as we become more immersed in Luca’s world. Luca knows that he should never have gotten involved with Fallon, but he is unable to let her go. He has fallen hard for the beautiful brunette who is now mixed up in his dangerous underworld. He can’t let her walk away now, even if she tried. Fallon’s feelings for Luca are very real and powerful but can she look past everything that Luca has been keeping from her? I really liked Fallon’s character. She is strong, resilient and in no way going to allow Luca to walk all over her. Can everything that Luca and Fallon shared even be saved? Once the trust is gone from a relationship can you even go back to where you once started from?
All in all, For Fallon is a debut novel that got my attention. It is always hard to put yourself out there as an author. It takes a lot of courage. This was a great romantic suspense novel. There is more to Luca and Fallon’s story and I for one am looking forward to seeing what is in store for them.
