Where Nerves End (Tucker Springs #1) by L.A. Witt

Title ~ Where Nerves End (Tucker Springs #1)

Author ~ L.A. Witt

Publisher ~ Riptide Publishing

Genre ~ M/M Romance, Contemporary

Released ~ 23rd June 2014

Jason Davis can handle a breakup. And an overwhelming mortgage. And a struggling business. And the excruciating pain that keeps him up at night thanks to a shoulder injury. But all of it at once? Not so much. When his shoulder finally pushes him to a breaking point, Jason takes a friend’s advice and gives acupuncture a try.

Acupuncturist Michael Whitman is a single dad struggling to make ends meet. When a mutual friend refers Jason as a patient, and Jason suggests a roommate arrangement to alleviate their respective financial strains, Michael jumps at the opportunity.

But Jason soon finds himself regretting it—he’s too damn attracted to Michael, and living with him is harder than he thought it’d be. In fact, the temptation to act on his feelings would almost be too much if not for the fact that Michael is straight. Or at least, that’s what their mutual friend claims.

(Note: This is a revised second edition, with minor additions, of the first edition originally published elsewhere.)

Macky’s Review

I really enjoyed the dynamics of the story in Where Nerves End. It reads as a gay for you style plot and L A Witt pulls it off smoothly. Jason and Michael are brought together when Jason turns to acupuncture as a last resort for the chronic pain in his shoulder and Michael's practice fits the bill.

To cut a long story short, the appointments help but the expense makes it hard for Jason to keep regular visits and he's struggling financially with the upkeep and running of his gay club, his house payments and his life in general - all related to his ex business partner. The treatments do start to help but he also has the problem of being very attracted to Michael and his "hands on" treatments tend to make him feel a little 'uncomfortable', if you get my drift! Of course he finds out Michael is divorced with a son, so assumes he's straight and out of his league. Circumstances occur that make it circumspect for the two of them to house share, it helps them both out financially but of course being in close contact together the inevitable happens.

There is a lot to enjoy in this book, the chemistry and love scenes sizzle and there is a lot of humour, but there is also a lot of emotion, so you get a great balance overall. I loved the storyline around Michael coming out to his family, especially his son. Very nicely handled.

Tucker Springs is a town full of diverse and interesting characters and with great writers of m/m fiction like L A Witt, Marie Sexton and Heidi Cullinan involved, how can it go wrong. When you've finished with this one, you'll definitely want to go on to the rest of the series. I'm hooked!

The Tucker Springs Universe

Welcome to Tucker Springs, population 75,000 + you! This collaborative story world is brought to you by three award-winning LGBTQ authors: Heidi Cullinan, Marie Sexton, and L.A. Witt.

The fictional town of Tucker Springs is located on the western slope of Colorado, in between Grand Junction and Silverton. One of the themes of Tucker Springs is that what you see is not what you get. Take, for example, the “springs.” Although many neighboring towns have actual hot springs, the spring here is more of a bubbling mud puddle. Locals like to trick newbies by sending them in search of it.

The Tucker Springs stories are a series of loosely-connected, standalone novels. Most of them take place in the Light District, a.k.a. Hacktown, a district known for its theaters, galleries, intimate nightspots, and music.

About L.A. Witt

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer currently living in the glamorous and ultra-futuristic metropolis of Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, two cats, and a disembodied penguin brain that communicates with her telepathically. In addition to writing smut and disturbing the locals, L.A. is said to be working with the US government to perfect a genetic modification that will allow humans to survive indefinitely on Corn Pops and beef jerky. This is all a cover, though, as her primary leisure activity is hunting down her arch nemesis, erotica author Lauren Gallagher, who is also said to be lurking somewhere in Omaha.

L. A.’s backlist is available on her website, and updates (as well as random thoughts and the odd snarky comment) can be found on her blog or on Twitter (@GallagherWitt).
