Synopsis

Liam “Hunter” Blake hates the Reapers MC. Born and raised a Devil’s Jack, he knows his duty. He’ll defend his club from their oldest enemies—the Reapers—using whatever weapons he can find. But why use force when the Reapers’ president has a daughter who’s alone and vulnerable? Hunter has wanted her from the minute he saw her, and now he has an excuse to take her.
Em has lived her entire life in the shadow of the Reapers. Her overprotective father, Picnic, is the club’s president. The last time she had a boyfriend, Picnic shot him. Now the men in her life are far more interested in keeping her daddy happy than showing her a good time. Then she meets a handsome stranger—a man who isn't afraid to treat her like a real woman. One who isn't afraid of her father. His name is Liam, and he’s The One.
Or so she thinks.

And in their triumph die, like fire and powder
Which, as they kiss, consume”

Devil’s Game by Joanna Wylde is book three in her Reaper’s MC series. I’ve wanted Em’s story pretty much from the start when we meet her in book one. I knew the man she ended up with would have to be something special considering the fact that he would need to deal with a feisty bundle of female who is as sweet as she is dangerous. This story’s timeline somewhat overlaps with that of the previous book in the series, Reaper’s Legacy, and it is yet another fantastic addition to this biker series that seems to be getting better and better. With a forbidden love between two people who belong to rival clubs, it is anything but an easy start for two star-crossed lovers.

“Dad was well and truly cock-blocking me, and it was bullshit. Wait, did it count as cock-block if you didn’t have a cock?”

Emmy Lou Hayes was born and raised right in the heart and bosom of the Reapers MC. As the daughter of the President, she knows all about the MC way of life. She also knows all about the single and virginal life considering the fact that she has countless over-protective “big brothers and uncles” around along with a father who has a penchant for shooting her boyfriends. Seriously, how is a girl supposed to have a love life when any guy who comes sniffing around ends up running away? Em truly wants to experience, love, passion and everything that encompasses that. Short of that, the girl simply wants to get laid as she seems to be unable to “give this shit away.” When Em meets Liam online and they begin conversing, she finally thinks she has found the one. The one who will stick his neck on the line for her. He seems almost too amazing to be true. Perhaps he is.

“Hell, if he didn’t have all those tattoos running across his shoulder and down his arm, he could have been in a boy band.”

Liam “Hunter” Blake is very much a part of the Devil’s Jack MC, a rival club of the Reapers. Having been saved from a shit life by the President of the Devil’s Jack, Liam lives for his club and his brothers. He will defend them until his last breath and nothing will stand in his way. When Liam is ordered to scope out and get close to the President’s daughter of the Reapers MC, he did not suspect that he would fall for the innocent and endearingly clumsy beauty…and, fall hard. Liam is stuck between a rock and a hard place, giving in whole-heartedly to his feelings and desire for Em may just be seen as a betrayal. What’s a guy to do?

“No offence, Em, but us being together is way too dangerous and crazy to risk for just sex. Fuck that. I want do to this right. Are you with me?”

Liam and Em start things under an umbrella of lies and deceit. Liam is not exactly forthcoming when it comes to his true identity until his hand is forced. However, despite their rough beginnings there is no denying that they share some incredible chemistry. It does not take long for Liam to work his way into Em’s life once again. Being with one another full out is not so simple when two colliding worlds come crashing against them. The Reapers and the Devil’s Jack are on the brink of a full out war and Em and Liam are right in the middle. The animosity between the clubs runs deep and with so much standing against them, are Liam and Em willing to risk it all?

“How’s that, baby?” he asked, thumb starting to work my clit again. “Feel good being turned on by a Devil’s Jack.”

****

“You deserve a man who’ll fight for you, baby girl. You remember that, all right?”

I absolutely adored Liam and Em. Not only where they scorching hot together, but their banter and antics had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions throughout the book. Em was refreshingly honest, not afraid to speak her mind and go after what she wanted and she did not put up with any shit. She was also strong, sassy and had this clumsy-cute way about her. It was hard not to fall in love with her. Liam was definitely this bad-ass biker but I loved the fact that he was able to show his vulnerable side to Em. He was loyal, fiercely protective and he accepted Em for who she was. He fights for Em and is willing to stand up for her. At the same time, Em is willing to take a chance and stand up for her man. Seriously, these two were the shit! Both Em and Liam have to sacrifice to be with one another; but, in the end, one just can’t walk away from the possibility of a happy forever. They may have to fight every step of the way but to them it is worth the price. Scrapes and all.

All in all, Devil’s Game is one hell of an excited ride that I absolutely loved from start to finish. This book was chalk full of action, drama, suspense, passion and a sweet love story. It simply was Joanna Wylde at her best. At the end we get a little teaser respecting Picnic and what may be in store for him. Is it possible that the club President has finally met his match? His book, entitled Reaper’s Stand, is due out October 7, 2014. I can’t wait!

Exclusive Q&A with Joanna

1. What’s the hardest (pun totally intended) part of writing a sex scene?

Trying not to think about my mother reading it. Or my kids’ teachers. Or my friends. Or their husbands. Wine helps.

2. What’s your writing fuel? Coffee? Snacks? Diet Coke?

It’s a sick and terrible thing, but I like to drink Monster Energy Zero Ultra. It’s made entirely from radioactive chemicals and flavored with the broken dreams of English composition majors. Almost certainly carcinogenic--but it tastes like Squirt and it keeps me going all night long…

3. What’s one scene from DEVIL’S GAME that, if it were to become a movie, that would just have to be included?

In Reaper’s Legacy, something happens between Em and Hunter in a closed room, and readers have been waiting ever since to hear what really went on in there. That scene would definitely need to be included…
