Title: Breaking Shaun (Breaking Free, #2)
Author: E.M. Abel
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 26 2014
Some men fall in love and hand their balls over to the first woman who keeps them interested—but not me. Surfing and my freedom are the only two things I’ve ever needed. Meaningless one-night stands are fun, but the drama and jealousy that follows them aren’t worth it.
Until I met Natalie, I never realized there were women who thought like me. She enjoys sex with no strings, and with a body like that, there isn’t a man around who doesn’t want a piece of her—including me.
But our friends and relatives all run in the same circles. And we all know friendship and sex leave a mess. Hearts always end up broken.
I know it.
But I still want her.
Sometimes, the things we want don’t always come easily. Every choice, every action has consequences that can change you.
They can change everything.
And no matter how fiercely guarded, even the strongest hearts can break.
**WARNING** Not recommended for younger readers due to sexual content, language and recreational use of marijuana.

“Let’s fall in love
Before the world breaks through.
Before time catches up
And I break you.”
Breaking Shaun by E.M. Abel is book two in her Breaking Free series. I became a huge fan of this author and her witty and unapologetic style of writing after reading her debut novel, Freeing Asia (the first book in this series). Needless to say, this book was one of my more highly anticipated reads and I could not wait to sink my teeth into it. Perhaps it was more about sinking my teeth into Shaun. Hmmm? Ms. Abel surely does not disappoint with Shaun and Natalie’s rough and tangled road to a happy forever. Two people with commitment issues. Two people too afraid to dive into something real, something that feels so right. Who will break first?
“When I made promises, I always kept them, and the most I’d ever promised a woman was multiple orgasms.”
We meet Shaun Fuller in book one of this series. Shaun is an almost twenty-six-year-old over-confident and unrepentant man-whore who steers clear of anything resembling commitment or love. One thing is for certain, Shaun calls them like he sees them and he simply does not pretend to be someone he’s not. He lives a relatively care-free lifestyle and makes no apologies for being the love-them and leave-them sort. But, lately, living life going from one meaningless encounter to another does not have the same appeal as it used to. Shaun finds himself at a crossroads of sorts not really knowing or understanding how to break free from the funk his life has become.
I don’t really get into men. I get on them, and then I get off.”
“Women like me don’t fall for guys like you. We don’t come when you call, we don’t beg for your attention, and we don’t confuse sex with love. Women like me break men like you.”
“Men’s egos were a lot like their dicks, always needing to be stroked.”
Twenty-four-year-old Natalie has recently moved across the country to Virginia in hopes of starting fresh. With a crappy childhood and upbringing along with commitment issues of her own, Natalie does not do long-term, nor does she place her trust in people easily. She is a strong heroine who has worked hard to be there for the people she does love like her younger sister. She has no issues with sex with no-strings as long as she is in control. Natalie longs to give the control she holds onto with a tight fist over to someone she knows can handle it. The problem is, she has yet to find the man who can handle the real her.
“I had a feeling I had finally met my match.”
“Maybe he was exactly what I needed – someone who could make me feel alive.”
Natalie and Shaun meet and sparks fly. Shaun is the cocky lothario who sees something he wants and Natalie turns him down without even blinking. But, Shaun’s passion for surfing and Natalie’s curiosity and desire to take more risks leads to the pair developing a friendship which soon turns into something more. Can two people who are so very much alike, two commitment-phobes, let down their highly-erected walls down long enough for a true relationship to blossom? And, when curveballs that neither one of them could have fathomed are thrown into the mix, will the bond they share be strong enough to withstand the fire?
“I was nervous. I could feel myself falling, and I was afraid of what might break when I did.”
“I wanted all of her. I wanted to be the first man she gave everything to, but I knew I didn’t deserve it. I could only take what she was offering. So, I did. I took all of it.”
“For the first time in my life, I wanted to claim someone as mine.”
“You’ve got my heart in your hands, and I plan to leave it there. There’s no point in giving it back. It’ll be useless without you.”
“I love you, Killer – the real you, not just the parts you show everyone else.”
I loved both Natalie and Shaun. Both of them were so dead set against anything that resembled a relationship and they fought one another every step of the way. It was fun to watch. This book is brilliantly written with some hilarious and witty dialogue, quick-witted banter and memorable characters. Natalie and Shaun presented themselves as these confident individuals who lived life by their own rules. As they get closer and they begin to open up to one another, it was nice to see them so vulnerable. It truly made them both such endearing characters.
When the huge twist is thrown our way I almost chucked my beloved kindle across the room. Yes E.M., you were this close to owing me a new kindle! Anyways, the way Shaun and Natalie deal with it was just so real. They both got scared. They both made mistakes. But, at the end of the day, both Shaun and Natalie discover that what they share is worth the fight. It is worth overcoming the obstacles. It is worth putting your trust in the hands of someone else even if they screw up at times and hurt you. This is truly where this author shines with her epic writing skills. Both the hero and heroine in this tale go from individuals who are incapable of letting some get close to people who overcome the odds, show their resilience and learn how to love someone fully, wholly and unconditionally. They found acceptance with each other. They found their true strength.
If you read Freeing Asia, you know that E.M. Abel can write some panty-melting sexy times. But, HOLY FIRE IN MY CROTCH, this book was hot. I mean H.A.W.T. Shaun and Natalie have some serious chemistry going on. Further, two alphas in the bedroom equals sizzling and erotic good times. Just have some immediate relief available. You will need it. Damn!
All in all, Breaking Shaun is a fantastic read. E.M. Abel did so much right with this book. Everything from strong characters to brilliant dialogue, secondary characters that are well written and the fact that we get to catch up with Marcus, Asia and Jay all made this book a favorite for me. Read this book! I honestly can’t wait for Jay’s book. Dammit, E.M.! I hope you are writing fast!
“We’ve got this.” I leaned down to give her a kiss.
She smiled against my lips before she whispered, “Yeah.”
“Is this what you wanted?” he whispered as he took my wrists in one hand and the other came down to cup my breast.
I swallowed as moisture gathered in my mouth and my brain scrambled for a response. It was just so difficult to think with Shaun’s hard body pressing against mine in the middle of his apartment building where anyone could see us.
His gaze finally broke from mine and moved down to my lips as he glided his thumb across my hard nipple. I could smell the soap on him, feel his wet, warm skin pressed against me. My eyes fluttered closed and I pressed my head against the wall as the lust took over.
Shaun moved his hips forward making me very aware of his arousal before lowering his head and slowly dragging his tongue across my bottom lip. I was panting now and my entire body was tingling. I don’t know how he’d done it but Shaun had completely turned the tables on me. I’d come over to assert myself and show him the side of me he hadn’t seen, yet here I was getting pressed against a wall and turning into putty in his hands.
“Come with me.” She said as she turned around and went back downstairs.
I followed her into the laundry room where she opened the dryer and took her stuff out. I was too busy staring at her bare ass to realize what she was about to make me do.
“I want you to put this on.” She said, her little black bikini dangling from her fingertips.
I started shaking my head.
“Oh, hell no.”
Natalie’s face got serious and she put her hand on her hip.
“A bet’s a bet. Don’t be a pussy.”
My eyebrows shot up and I gave her a challenging look.
“You better remember this shit later. Those words will come back to haunt you, trust me.”
She smiled as I snatched the scraps of fabric from her hand and tried to figure out how they went. When I got the bottom straight I held it up between us.
“My dick is gonna hang out of this shit.” I said as I moved it in front of my crotch.
Natalie was laughing now and I smiled when I saw how red her face was getting.
“You better hurry up before the pizza gets here.”
I groaned and pushed my board shorts down around my ankles. Natalie kept laughing as she watched me try to get my big feet into the foot holes and pull the bikini bottoms up. They were fucking tiny, my junk was hanging out everywhere.
“Here, let me help you.” She said as she came closer and put her hand on my dick.
“That…is not going to help.”
“Ssshh” she hushed me as she tried tucking my dick into the fabric but her touch was only making it worse.
I could feel myself getting hard.
“Okay fine!” she said, giving up.
“Just put the top on. But when the delivery guy gets here I want you to keep a straight face the entire time and ask him if he thinks this color looks good on you.”
Natalie was laughing again before she even finished her sentence. She seemed so young as she covered her mouth like what we were doing was so bad. It was cute to see her having so much fun. I also loved watching her move around in that short dress. Her nipples were hard and her tits were bouncing around a lot.
Baseball. Baseball. Baseball.
I put my board shorts back on and Natalie helped me tie her bikini top over my chest. It looked so stupid but I made it work. Natalie had fun playing with my hair and swooping it to the side over my forehead. I looked like a manly version of Justin Bieber. It was ridiculous.
About The Author
My husband is awesome and also a Chief in the US Navy. This means crazy schedules, uncertainty and lots of nights spent alone writing on my computer.
I have two amazing kids who always know how to make me laugh.
I've been passionate about writing since I wrote my first poem in the 3rd grade and I've been using it as a means to express myself since.
I think because I hold my emotions so close and fear being vulnerable I use different forms of self expression- writing, drawing, painting, photography, tattoos- to show the world who I am.
The one rule I use everyday is the Golden Rule--"Treat others the way you'd like to be treated." I believe karma is very real and sometimes she can be a bitch if you make her that way.
I love acting crazy, I love to laugh, I love making people laugh, I love the ocean, I love dancing like no one is watching, I love good music, I love good books... oh man I should probably stop there. I love a lot of stuff.
