A Word from Lane Hayes
Friendship, opposites attract, baseball… take your pick. Better Than Friends has an element of each, however, it is truly a story about friends becoming something more than either bargained for. This is the third book in the Better Than Stories series following Better Than Good and Better Than Chance. If you’ve read the others, you know I have a soft spot for a slow building romance. I can’t help it. Throw in a bad boy with tats on a Harley and an uptight lawyer with a self-deprecating sense of humor and I’m sold! Yes, you guessed it…Better Than Friends has both.
Other than a drunken hot kiss at a mutual friends’ wedding, Curt is sure he and Jack have nothing in common. Except, they both love baseball. When Jack invites Curt to a game, he nervously accepts. Curt is very attracted to the older man and while he acknowledges they’re complete opposites, he can’t help being intrigued. Besides, if it’s a disaster, there’s still a game to watch. It’s far from a disaster, though. It’s the beginning of a fragile friendship that grows alongside a crazy attraction neither can ignore.
In my humble opinion, “opposite attraction” only works when there is something tangible to bind the MCs. Otherwise, it can come across as contrived and unrealistic. Curt and Jack are bound by friendship. A deep affection and mutual respect for one another. Both have issues and hang ups from past relationships, but they may have found their perfect match if they can work through things they cannot change. Curt and Jack’s story isn’t just about falling for a friend. It’s about what the bond of friendship brings out in each man. Compassion and a shoulder to lean on when times get tough. And neither can deny respect, affection and esteem pair very well with physical attraction.
The Better Than Stories series are all standalone books and can be read in any order. I’m a stickler for reading numerically, but honestly, there is no confusion if you happen to read this one before say, Better Than Good. You will meet characters from the other novels in Better Than Friends, but hopefully that will simply make you curious enough to go back and read their stories as well.
A huge thank you to Sinfully Sexy for having me here today! This is a wonderful site and a fantastic support to the MM Romance community of readers and authors.
Best wishes and Happy reading!

Published ~ 16th June 2014
Genre ~ M/M Romance, Contemporary
When Curt Townsend, a successful young DC lawyer, attends his first gay wedding, he doesn’t expect anything more than a great evening out spent celebrating two lucky guys willing to commit to one another. He certainly doesn’t anticipate meeting someone like Jack Farinelli. Fourteen years Curt’s senior, Jack owns two businesses: a gay bar and a motorcycle shop. He’s gorgeous and self-assured, but Curt is positive they have nothing in common.
Jack is comfortable in his own skin. He’s attracted to Curt’s quick wit and easy manner but most of all, to their unexpected mutual love of baseball. As they forge a friendship based on their shared enthusiasm for the sport, they begin a journey which reveals how their differences might be the catalyst behind a growing attraction. Both men have experienced their share of pain, but they realize they need to set aside the past and learn to trust in a future if they are to have one together.
