Aaron Weiss knows how to escape. Years ago, he ran from a romantic disappointment and impulsively joined the Army. Now, he’s forced to take a medical discharge and readjusting to life at home proves a challenge.
Jesse Ross knows how to hide. He realizes he’s an oddball, and that he’s an outsider within his own family. He also knows his secret love since childhood, Aaron, only wants his good-looking, favored older brother. Yet Jesse could never completely abandon his intense feelings for Aaron. Over the years, Jesse was a faithful pen pal to him. Still, he's shocked to his core to find Aaron on his doorstep.
As long-buried secrets and past hurts take center stage, the two are overwhelmingly drawn to each other. But it’s their future that may force them to risk everything.

Playlist for The Only Guy

I don’t write with music on; it distracts me from the rhythm of the words. However, I had fun creating this playlist. It sums up Aaron and Jesse’s relationship. Each two or three songs represented a part of their history together. I had a ball making this, and I hope you enjoy it!

Aaron and Jesse’s Playlist:

  “Summertime” Billy Stewart

“Suddenly, Last Summer” The Motels

“Cruel Summer” Bananarama

“Citizen Soldier” 3 Doors Down

“Fly Like an Eagle,” Steve Miller Band

“P.s I love You “ The Beatles

“Return to Sender” Elvis

“Dancing With Myself” Billy Idol

“Come Home” One Republic

“Heart of Glass” Blondie

“Broken” Lifehouse

“Art Teacher” Rufus Wainwright

“Put a Little Love in Your Heart” Dolly Parton

“Endless Love” Lionel Richie

Do you have a song for the different stages of your relationship? I do think about certain songs for my husband: dating songs, wedding songs, and so on…Music is a pretty powerful trigger for memories.

About Skylar M. Cates

Skylar M. Cates loves a good romance. She is quite happy to drink some coffee, curl up with a good book, and not move all day. Most days, however, Skylar is chasing after her husband, her kids, and her giant dog, Wasabi. Skylar dreams about spending her days writing her novels, walking along the beach, and making more time for her good friends. On a shoestring budget, Skylar has traveled all over in her early years. Although, lately, the laundry room is the farthest place she has visited, Skylar still loves to chat with people from all around the globe…

a Rafflecopter giveaway

  1. I do not need another series to follow, but clearly I have to make an exception for Skylar Cates. A giveaway would be the best way to get hooked LOL

  2. Not really re the song - if I hear the wedding first dance song, that takes me back!
I've got The Guy from Glamour to read so always up for a chance at book two!

  3. Oh...I love lots of songs fit that subject...ummm...Home by ZZ Ward wraps everything in a pretty little bow.

  4. No, I'm not really into music.

  5. You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette always reminds me if my first love. Obviously didn't end well ;)

  6. The Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Sergei Rachmaninoff, which we had played at our wedding, and Man of Colours by Icehouse to which we danced at our reception both remind me of my husband

Thanks for the post and giveaway!

  7. There are tons of songs I love, but of course it would depend on the guy!

  8. There's a song that I've been told my daddy used to sing to me, so I suppose that would be one. TR Dallas, Daddy's Girl. It's a really sweet song. :D

  9. I love music, listen to all kinds and almost always have music playing in the background, especially at work. My hubby and I never had a particular song, but Always by Atlantic Star was the song played at our wedding, so even after 26 years, I always think of him when I hear it. Thanks for the giveaway.

  10. Music is a memory aid for me. I remember choosing pretty classical songs for the wedding itself, but Brian Adams, Bruce Springstein and Billy Joel for afterwards. Our traveling music to our honeymoon location was Sam Cook and we love jazz music when we're alone.

Based on your playlist, this story seems to have some great ebb and flow to it. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  11. My song is At Last by Etta James

  12. Way back 13 years hubby and I got married and this was "our" song ~ Amazed by Lonestar. Every time I hear that song it takes me to the days when we were footloose and fancy free :) What happened?!

  13. Three Times. A Lady my Hubby sings it to me all the time, we will be married 55 years in September and he stills says I am his lady

  14. This comment has been removed by the author.

  15. I love all kinds of music but I don't really associate it with people as much as I associate it with a period of my life or an experience :)

  16. different songs go with different memories!

  17. my wedding song reminds me of my husband...i knew i loved you before i met you by savage garden

  18. I do! There is the song we danced to for the first time ever, our wedding song, and other assorted songs that have meant different things at different times throughout our lives together. Great question. Thank you for the play list too, it's always fun to see what an author listened to while writing.

  19. I don't have songs for my relationships (I've had too few) but I do have songs that "go" with certain books! I love adding to them. :)

  20. I really enjoyed The Guy from Glamour and looking forward to reading this one. Thanks for the playlist - so many great songs to go with this book.

  21. This looks like a good read I have not read any of the previous books. thanks for the giveaway

  22. No, not really. I don't usually think of people with particular songs. Thanks for the giveaway.

  23. I have many, but the biggest one is probably In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel.

  24. Love the playlist idea! Wish every book had one :)

  25. Nice playlist. Thank you for the giveaway.

  26. as I don't have a loved one at the moment the answer would be "no"

  27. Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra

  28. I would have to say our first day song from our wedding.

  29. No significant other for me so no I don't have a relationship song. Thanks for sharing the playlist for Aaron and Jesse. I love discovering new music and I haven't heard some of these before.I also love to fit the songs in while giving the intended books a read.
