“What we know is the unrequited possibility, the temptation of the idea. The make-believe. The adventure. But when you choose the adventure, it becomes real life.” ~Mia Holland
Sweet Filthy Boy is my first book by the writing duo known as Christina Lauren. I know.
Holy shitty, shit…right??? I am experiencing a bit of shock with respect to that fact myself. I mean, these authors write funny, sweet, charming and fantastically sexy books from what I could tell. Again, WHY THE HELL HAVE I NOT READ THEIR BOOKS BEFORE? Sweet Filthy Boy, the first book in Christina Lauren’s Wild Seasons series, delivered. And, delivered huge. I loved it. This book was fun, entertaining and erotic. These authors have written a book artfully balancing sweet, funny and hot. A great escape into a fantastic sensual journey that also had me laughing out loud.
Mia Holland has just graduated from college. With her two best friends in tow, the trio decide to live it up in Las Vegas for one weekend of fun celebrating their college accomplishment. Mia may be dreading the fast-approaching summer break and then having to move to Boston for business school in the fall, but she is willing to let loose and have a little fun with her two friends despite her social awkwardness. For once in her life she wants to step out of her reserved and timid shell and morph into someone who is willing to take chances even if it is a little wild. But sometimes acting wild and free may be the catalyst to change your life forever.
Mia meets a deliciously gorgeous French man, Ansel Guillaume, in Las Vegas. He is in the U.S. spending some time with close friends. Mia is immediately drawn to Ansel and the pair spend one wicked night together. Ansel is unbelievably handsome, charismatic and fascinating. Perhaps it was Ansel’s “magical charms”. Perhaps it was Mia herself. But, soon after their time together in Law Vegas, Mia makes a crazy and impulsive decision so unlike her. She decides to take Ansel up on his offer and she follows him to Paris for the summer. A summer of dreams and a summer where sensual erotic fun will be at the forefront.
Being in Paris with Ansel is so very different than the quick rendezvous they had in Las Vegas. Things are a little awkward at first but soon enough Mia and Ansel simply fall into one another and the pair begin to develop a more profound connection. Carefree days and seductive nights have Mia embracing a provocative side that she never even knew she had. Ansel draws her out of her shell and Mia is savoring all that she can in this temporary adventure she finds herself on. Will Mia be able to the seductive Frenchman behind as well as the woman she has now become and return to the U.S. to attend business school? What happens when real life intrudes and Mia is forced to choose the path she wants to take?
“He was trying to save me first.”
I happily grinned throughout almost the entirety of the book. Ansel’s goofy sweetness and carefree ways made me fall in love with him and the authoritative man he became during sexy times had me contemplating a flight to Paris to go off and try and find an Ansel of my very own. Mia goes to Paris on a whim but in actuality she ended up connecting with her true self and discovering that she can take chances in life and become the woman she longs to be. This book truly is simplicity at its very best. Nothing was bogged down with overly complicated storylines or over-the-top drama. It was a tender-hearted romance packed full with some hot and heavy times between the sheets. A winning combination in my books.
All in all, Sweet Filthy Boy is a fantastic book. This may have been my first book by Christina Lauren but it certainly will not be my last. I will end with one of my favorite quotes from the book:
“You just implied you’re banging me tonight.”
His grin gets bigger as his hands snake around my waist. “Play your cards right.”
“I forgot my cards.”
His smile wilts dramatically. “But I did bring my penis.”
About The Authors
Lauren Billings (but everyone calls her Lo) has a Ph.D. in neuroscience and before she made writing her full-time job, would spend her days doing nerdy research-type things wearing a lab coat and goggles. She is silly Mommy to two littles, wife to one mountain biking homebrewing scientist, bestie to a shoe-stealer, and an unabashed lover of YA and romance.
Christina Hobbs (but you’ll always hear Lo call her PQ) used to spend her days in a junior high counseling office surrounded by teenagers. Married to the cutest boyin school, she has a thirteen year old daughter, is an unapologetic lover of boy bands and glitter, and also likes to steal Lo’s shoes.
