Ten years after graduation, Jake "the jock" Campbell and Brandon "the nerd" Bartlett are teaching at their old high school and still living in separate worlds. When Brandon is thrown into a coaching job on Jake's baseball team, they find themselves learning more about each other than they'd ever expected.
High school is all about image - even for the teachers. Brandon and Jake have to get past their preconceived notions to find the friendship needed to work together. And somewhere along the way, they discover that perceptions can always change for the better.

I enjoyed this book immensely. Jake reminded so much of my P. E. teacher in school who I also had a healthy respect for if not slightly overpowering and scary. Just never thought that he may have had a softer side too.
I loved the way the author built up the suspension in the beginning of their relationship with both guys being unsure and second guessing themselves all the time. This would be totally natural in a situation where being gay could be construed as not an option. It is only the process of finding out bit by bit, feeling their way as to whether the feelings they're experiencing personally are also reciprocal. This would so be me too.
I loved the steamy scene on the car bonnet / hood (phew!) and the ending was great too if not maybe a little abrupt. As mentioned in a previous update my knowledge and vocabulary of baseball and the US education system took a crash course with this book. Thank goodness for the built in dictionary in my Kindle. I guess I will just have to write the "British" version using cricket and comprehensive schools - lol!

Superhero by Eli Easton
Macky’s Rating ~ 5 Stars
It’s not easy for a young gay artist like Jordan Carson to grow up in Jefferson, Wisconsin, where all anyone seems to care about in middle school and high school are the sports teams. But Jordan was lucky. He met Owen Nelson in the second grade, and they’ve been BFFs ever since. Owen is a big, beautiful blond and their school’s champion wrestler. No one messes with Owen, or with anyone close to him, and he bucks popular opinion by keeping Jordan as his wingman even after Jordan comes out at school.
Their friendship survives, but Jordan’s worst enemy may be himself: he can’t seem to help the fact that he is head-over-heels in love with a hopeless case—his straight friend, Owen. Owen won’t let anything take Jordan’s friendship away, but he never counted on Jordan running off to find a life of his own. Owen will have to face the nature of their relationship if he’s to win Jordan back.

Eli Easton is an automatic buy for me and she became that as soon as I read Superhero. I just plain adore this story, its classed as YA and it's set in college but this is full of simmering sexual tension and some pretty hot love scenes which fit into the storyline perfectly. A gorgeous, fun, engaging novella full of characters who I challenge anyone not to fall in love with...especially the two MC's—straight, jock, school wrestler Owen and his BFF gay, sort of geeky comic writer Jordan. Best friends since Kindergarden these two go on a journey (over the years) of discovery together that was so endearing I didn't want it to end. Wait till you meet Jordan's Superhero characters-'Pin Man' and 'Pencil Boy' who he bases on himself and Owen. OMG! So funny! There's some angst and conflict but nothing that drags the story into the realms of doom and gloom, so in terms of a feel good story this really fits the bill. Honestly, it has to be one of the best executed Jock/geek, Gay For You, friends to lovers stories I've EVER read, Eli takes all those known tropes and just works her own magical style on them, and they still feel fresh. Every time I go back to read it I come away feeling all smiley and goofy and...well... just happy! Whoever gets to read this for the first time is very lucky...but I guarantee you, one read won't be enough. This has 'go to comfort read' written all over it. I can attest to that!
Pup (Guards of Folsom #1) by S.J.D. Peterson
Monique’s Rating ~ 5 Stars
Micah “Pup” Slayde knows he wants Tackett Austin the moment he lays eyes on him in the Guards of Folsom. Micah wants to have purpose, to be taken care of, and to take care of his Dom—wants to trust him completely, live for him, belong to him. To become his everything. Micah is sure Tackett is the one. The problem is, in order to be the perfect sub, he needs to stay focused, and that’s not easy for Micah, who suffers from what he refers to as a “broken brain.” Focus and adult attention deficit disorder rarely coexist.
Ever since Ty Callahan and Blake Henderson’s collaring ceremony, Tackett’s been thinking too much about his own loneliness. Even though Ty introduces Micah and urges Tackett to give him a try, Tackett isn’t so easily convinced. He’s spent his life pursuing a successful business career, and the subs he dominates almost never enjoy the kiss of his leather twice. Twenty years Micah’s senior, Tackett has no interest in taking on and taming such a young and naughty sub—but it’s difficult to resist such an adorable pup when he begs.

I love this book.... it had me in a puddle of lust at 13% with “You have no idea what you have just unleashed boy” …tummy tingling!! What a fabulous read this was, with a pierced, tattooed, naughty little pup and an Ohhh, soooo, droolworthy, fall to your knees, powerful Dom! Excellent start to the Guards of Folsom series… I want more NOW!!!
This is a BDSM novel, a story of a Dom and a sub who were perfect for each other… they just didn’t know it yet! Although this is BDSM, it’s not all about the sex, don’t get me wrong there is plenty of yummy, tummy tingling, panty melting man loving, but these two characters require so much more than just sex, they both needed a purpose in life a connection on another level, Micah for his need to manage his ADHD and Tackett because he was lost and needed to find his way again.
As always, SJD Peterson’s writing is just amazing, this is a compelling read that had me totally enthralled and invested in these characters, she gives us great understanding of their inner turmoil's and battles, they are not perfect and have their faults but neither of them was afraid to voice concerns or ask for help and I was totally smitten with the pair of them. There is more to Tackett and Micah than initial impressions... there are layers that are slowly peeled away helping us understand their complexities, fears and doubts and SJD conveys this perfectly… with no angst thrown in there for the the sake of it, it is just a beautiful and emotional love story of two men learning to believe, trust and help each other to move on with their lives and find the happiness and love they both desire.

Promises by Marie Sexton
Tina’s Rating ~ 4 Stars
Jared Thomas has lived his whole life in the small mountain town of Coda, Colorado. He can't imagine living anywhere else. Unfortunately, the only other gay man in town is twice his age and used to be his teacher, so Jared is resigned to spending his life alone. Until Matt Richards walks into his life, that is. Matt has just been hired by the Coda Police Department, and he and Jared immediately become friends. Matt claims he is straight, but for Jared, having a sexy friend like Matt is way too tempting. Facing Matt's affair with a local woman, his disapproving family, and harassment from Matt's co-workers, Jared fears they'll never find a way to be together-if he can even convince Matt to try.
Tina’s Quick Bite
Promises is a heartfelt romance that features solid characters, and a tension filled relationship without too much angst. Marie Sexton’s writing is sublime, and I really liked the first person point of view that gave me an insight into Jared's mind. Matt is wonderful, the perfect soul mate for Jared. The changes he is going through and his troubles dealing with his feelings for Jared are believable.
I’ve read a lot of stories where the inexperienced guys (the first timers:-) know suddenly too exactly what to do. In Promises it’s different though. The guys don't rush into her first sexual encounter, their worries and insecurities are excellent elaborated. Very realistically done.
Promises is the perfect book if you're looking to dip your toes in the MM genre. Although it’s the first of five Coda books it can be read as a standalone as well.
