When I heard Jack L. Pyke and Lynn Kelling were going to combine their Don’t… and Deliver Us series, I was incredibly excited, but also a little apprehensive. They are two of my favourite authors and I love their books and their men for very different reasons. Jack in my opinion is THE mistress of the dark and twisted erotic psychological thriller, edge of your seat, heart in your mouth read that totally fucks with your head… I can’t get enough of her writing! Her world revolves around BDSM in that Gray is a Master Dom and Jack is a Master Sub for the Masters Circle, a mysterious secret establishment that enforces good practice in the BDSM world, where they train subs and Dom’s and seem to be entrenched in the machinations of the upper echelons of British society… you do not want to mess with these guys! In Jack Pyke’s books the main focus and pivotal character is Jack, his emotional struggles with his disorders, traumatic past and the impact that has on the two men that love him… Gray and Jan, who themselves play their parts in helping Jack maintain the status quo in his otherwise dysfunctional life. Jack needs Gray for the BDSM which gives him focus and keeps him grounded, Jan brings a sense of normality to Jacks internal chaos. The BDSM although a huge part of the book, for me is not the main focus… Jack is!

I love Lynn Kellings world for different reasons, she sates my need for lots of intense and emotional kinky fuckery with characters that are damaged and broken, with plenty of angst, mainly in the guise of Kyle, but all the characters, with the exception of Ben, so far, have been touched by evil at some point in their lives… with Trace, being the constant for all of them, the man that protects and holds them all together when all around them is falling apart, he is like a father who cares for and loves his kids, they are his family, and, much the same could be said for Gray who holds that role for Jack and Jan. But Lynn’s books are very much about the BDSM scene and lifestyle, the clubs, the leather, the toys and the part all of that plays in the dynamics and power plays of their relationships. As I said, plenty of kinky fuckery… Intense, erotic, powerful, wanton, downright dirty and hedonistic kinky fuckery… I LOVE IT!!! Don’t get me wrong, the sex in Jacks books is just as intense and erotic when the three are together, but it’s also more on the deviant, dark side… with adrenaline spikes and mind fucks that have me reeling.

So, in one way, I can barely contain my excitement and enthusiasm, two series I love, with characters that are a part of my very soul, combined with two incredibly talented authors in the driving seat who together tick every single one of my boxes when it comes to what I love about reading, together creating a series that sounds exquisite… life couldn’t get any better!

But… and yes, there is a but… I was getting carried away and when I stopped to think, so many questions came to mind… How are these two writers going to combine their very different styles of writing? Will they each lose their individual impact? Will what they achieve on their own be diluted? Will the characters I have come to know and love get lost through the eyes of another author? Will they write the series in Jacks first POV or Lynn’s third POV? How will they maintain the dynamics of each group of men… one triad and three couples? Then I had to think about the readers, I have read all the books in the series now, what about those readers that have only read one of the series? Or haven’t started them yet but are fascinated with the concept… do they need to read all the books to understand the story?

I was getting myself in a mess! I LOVE these characters as created by their authors, my head and heart was starting to hurt… Is this a stroke of genius, combining two compelling series? Or is it going to destroy the relationship I have established with them as a reader?

I couldn’t wait… these men have a place in my heart, I decided I would make it my mission to ensure my boys were in safe hands… hmm, but how to go about it?

Do I use Gray’s mind fuck skill? Or Trace and Jack’s straight to the point approach? Jan has a sensible head, can be diplomatic, I could try that? Kyle’s butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth charm seems to work for him? Ben’s shoot now ask later… perhaps not?!? Gabe’s intimidation techniques combined with Micah’s good cop bad cop routine might work? …However I think Dare’s soft and simple information extraction through kindness is more my style! …like that’s going to work!

Fuck!!! …I need the guys here to help me out.

Trace….. Gray….. I have a job for you!

Trace and Gray

V

Lynn Kelling and Jack L. Pyke

Jack L: Gray comes in here with a gun, I’m out of here, Lynn. At least Trace likes you.

Lynn: Yeah, I’m not so sure about that. [Nudges Jack L] Shush, they’re here.

Jack L: [Looks at Gray, who has now closed the door behind Trace] Oh c’mon, we could have at least written in that they should be naked for this. Who put clothes on them? [Tries to pinch Lynn’s notepad from her]

Lynn: Get off. [Chuckles] If we take away their clothes, we’ll only—

Gray: Piss me off.

Jack L: Oh fuh—So, erm, Gray… Trace. You know we’re all friends here, right? And we’ve got cameras in here watching your every move. Play nice. Please.

Gray: [Snorts]

Trace: [pulls up a chair and sits by Kelling] Do you trust Jack, Lynn? Because you know Gray here, he doesn’t.

Lynn: Jack Harrison? No. I trust him about as far as I can throw him, which isn’t very damn far. I do trust Jack Pyke, though.

Gray: [Gives another snort] They share the same first name, nothing more. And I’d take my Jack over her any day.

Jack L: Forget the clothes, just write in something about happy pills, Lynn. I’ll get Sam from Jack’s garage to slip them into Gray’s drink somewhere along the line. Then Jack—

Trace: She’s as twisted as Jack Harrison, and, Christ, this double Jack thing’s confusing as hell.

Lynn: Yeah, well, they’ve never been in the same room before, have they? Hasn’t been a problem.

Gray: And won’t be a problem. She’s not getting near him again.

Trace: Ease off, Gray. So, why do you trust Jack Pyke, Lynn? Why share worlds and get me involved in Gray’s?

Lynn: You know something about how a person’s skill at their craft says a lot about who they are and how easy it’s going to be to work with them, professionally?

Trace: Course.

Lynn: Same thing. Jack – female Jack – knows her shit. When the idea was presented to let her borrow some of you for a while, and have me borrow some of her guys, too, it sounded like too much fun to pass up. Easy decision. Maybe it ties in to why I have so many characters who like to indulge their fantasies so extravagantly. I had my own literary fantasies to explore. I had to go for it. She loved the hell out of you guys. I loved the hell out of hers. Match made in heaven. And there’s a great big world out there, beyond the fields around Diadem. A lot of the bad shit out there has bled in already. I decided it was time to let some good bleed in too. Give y’all some backup.

Gray: And you, Ms. Pyke. Who exactly is writing what here? If Ms. Kelling isn’t twisted enough on her own, she now has you to play with too.

Jack L: We pass secrets between us, Gray. A lot like you and your MI5 crew. I’ll whisper a plot in Lynn’s ear, Lynn will whisper back in mine about what you boys could get up to, and then we each go our own ways and work our own craft in our novels, albeit slightly under the influence.

Gray: That’ll get you arrested. Being under the influence.

Jack L: [Points at Lynn] She started it! Well, she said yes when we were approached to share worlds. But look at that grin – she’s definitely started something.

Lynn: Damn right I did. I’m the one that had the job of introducing you boys. There were a lot of folks counting on me to make sure you all played nice and no one got hurt. Or too hurt, might be more correct. You are a prickly bunch sometimes. Someone’s bound to get snagged by a thorn or two.

Jack L: [Finally manages to pinch Lynn’s notepad] Hmmm. Thorn bushes. Gray, Jack… Trace. Interesting.

Gray: [sighs] So that’s how the shared worlds work: you two get your heads together. And by the way, thank you for putting that one in her head. She’s eyeing up thorn bushes already. So, Ms. Kelling, you were about to tell me how you plan to hold Jack Harrison in your hands. How will you cope with the British slang and colorful metaphor that he can use around Jan?

Lynn: Well, Jack Harrison has a very distinct voice, which helps more than it hurts when it comes to capturing him correctly. He’s unique and has very particular needs when it comes to handling him. I knew that all going in and, happily, I’ve always found it’s much easier to stay on track when you’ve got plenty of rules and requirements to bounce yourself off of. But, I also did my homework before beginning this project. I studied each of you closely – Gray, Jack and Jan – so that I would be aware of your mannerisms and ways of speaking. And, luckily for me, Jack Pyke was always there to observe what everyone was up to and to ensure you were treated respectfully.

Jack L: Yep, Lynn’s minded all of Jack’s ps and fucking qs.

Trace: [to Jack L]: So, why’d you go for this, doll?

Lynn: Maybe you should just stick to calling her Jack, or Ms. Pyke. Just a suggestion.

Trace: Eh, fuck you Miss Know It All.

Jack L: I dunno, I quite like doll if it comes from you, Trace. And any chance you can stand between me and Gray? He’s not looking happy.

Trace: See? [Gives Lynn a smug grin] Don’t mind Gray over there. So, doll, what’s the goal here? I won’t let my kids get hurt and I won’t let Gray’s either.

Jack L: Hell, no. It killed me to see what you and your boys have been through up until the beginning of Forgive Us. I know all your secrets and fears as much as I know my own boys, and I love you for it.

Gray: Love? That what you call it?

Jack L: [To Trace] I’m just ignoring him, okay? He’s not had his portion of Jack this morning. But no, where Lynn likes the same dark edge as me, she’s also as driven to see all of you guys get the best of everything you deserve. It’s not saying the path will be easy—

Gray: [Pulls out a gun and attaches silencer]

Jack L: Ohhhhkay. [Edges closer to the door] But what’s coming in Forgive Us sets such lively and playful vibes, and it will bring in the beginnings of such a strong bond between you guys, you won’t think twice over crossing shores if and when the going gets rough for each other.

Trace: This don’t mean I need to go back to London, does it?

Jack L: Oh yes. Breakdown is the next stop for you. Jack needs a sensible head in such dark times. Then Gabe and Dare, with yourself, if you agree, are all mine in Gray Matters again. I’ll make sure Jack keeps Gray busy so that Gray doesn’t drag you around any famous art Galleries, or garages in Jack’s case.

Trace: Well, okay, but I don’t want my kids getting involved in this MC shit.

Jack L: Oh, I’m leaving that one to Lynn. Lynn?

Lynn: Getting involved with the Master’s Circle will earn Gabe, Dare, Ben, Kyle and Micah a level of security they haven’t dreamed possible. I know you’ve always been a proponent of freedom, Trace, but after everything your family has been through, don’t you think it might be time to ask for help from those who are willing and able to give it? Your boys have been through a lot. They deserve to have people watching their backs.

Trace: I watch their backs.

Lynn: And who watches yours?

Trace: Hey, we’re the ones asking the questions here, not you.

Gray: And to initiate this shared world, we’re going to America. To Diadem. Explain to me why?

Lynn: Well, Gray, I have a feeling Diadem’s rogue status isn’t sitting well with the MC anymore. Or maybe that’s just as good an excuse as any for you to make the trip instead of admitting to the real reasons why you want to go… isn’t it?

Trace: [chuckles and winks at Jack L]

Gray: There’s always unfinished business to be handled. You two ladies know that. So the question I want answering is: will there be some light at the end of this dark tunnel for those close to me?

Jack L: [Looks briefly at Lynn] Antidote is so hard on you, Jack, and Jan. I wouldn’t put you through all of that without something planned. [Looks at Trace] And it’s where friendship counts for everything,

Gray: And you, Ms. Kelling. For the closing words, will justice be done for your boys through this… Society of Masters?

Lynn: Absolutely. There’s nothing more satisfying than helping people who have been badly used get through life’s most daunting obstacles only to have them come out on the other side stronger, happier, and more at peace than they ever thought they could be.

Gray: I’m going to hold you to that. Keep that heads-up real close. Both of you.

About Jack L.Pyke

Jack blames her dark writing influences on living close to one of England’s finest forests. Having grown up hearing a history of kidnappings, murders, strange sightings, and sexual exploits her neck of the woods is renowned for, Jack takes that into her writing, having also learned that human coping strategies for intense situations can sometimes make the best of people have disastrously bad moments. Redeeming those flaws is Jack’s drive, and if that drive just happens to lead to sexual tension between two or more guys in a D/s relationship, Jack’s the first to let nature take its course.
