Synopsis

To everyone else, Trace is an enigmatic and carefully controlled Dominant. He runs Diadem, a private BDSM club, is a Master and mentor to his fellow Doms and their lovers—Gabriel, Darrek, Ben, and Kyle—while trying to be Master and lover for Micah. Trace is the one to step in when anything or anyone threatens his closest friends, yet he realizes he is in over his head when haunting events of the past endanger everyone's lives. Trace is forced to call on old connections for help from the world he tried to leave behind—the Master's Circle in England. Tensions rise to a fever pitch as Trace's hidden truths shake up the lives of everyone in his tangled, tight-knit family.
For over a decade, Trace, the founder of private BDSM club Diadem, has been living under an assumed name with hardly any ties to his past as a prostitute and Master’s Sub with the Master’s Circle. It’s a mix of chemistry, burning passion and decadent distractions which ignite the spark of hope that old wounds can heal, forgiveness might still be had, and that the future is full of tempting possibilities. (M/M+)

Monique’s Review

This was the book in the Deliver Us series I was most looking forward to… in my eyes, Lynn has saved the best to last. Trace and Micah the two men in this series who have played their part on the periphery but remained a constant, the two men above all the others that have had my heart racing at the glimpses we have had at their relationship and the roles they play within the dynamics of these Diadem men. The anticipation of their story has kept me on pins, as characters, they have intrigued me the most… and I so wanted to love them. Well, let me tell you… I WAS NOT disappointed!

Trace brings an edge of danger to this series… his resolve unwavering, he is a force to be reckoned with, calm, resolute, steadfast in his loyalty and fiercely protective of those he loves. Trace is all power in a cocky self assured way, he’s rough around the edges, wild, and raw. He commands attention and demands submission by sheer presence alone. I have loved Trace from the very first scene in book #1 with Darreck and he has certainly wormed his way in to my heart and my dreams… fuck the man is HOT!!

You don’t get this good without some serious goddamned practice at your fuckin’ craft.

There is also a warmth to Trace and you can feel the love and affection he has for those he calls his kids, his family. But as his past threatens to catch up with him and we see that past in all it’s intensity through flashbacks, we learn that Trace is not all he seems to be. He is a man shrouded in mystery and intrigue and when past meets present, in the form of Gray Raoul, his former lover and Dom, it’s time for Trace to come clean with those he loves.

Oh Micah… be still my beating heart, as a submissive his pulls on all my heart strings, but Micah is a switch and there is always that sizzling sense of power from him that seems to lie just beneath the surface that sets my pulse racing. Micah and Trace are lovers, even though Micah, is actually married. Now I know, some of you will find this a deal breaker, but be assured Micah and his wife have an open relationship and she herself has a lover. We do see some scenes too between Trace, Micah and Lily, again something some M/M readers may not enjoy but I have to say it’s minimal and essential to the story arc. I didn’t particularly like Lily, although I did understand her… but I felt that she had a lot to do with the burden of guilt Micah feels over their relationship and the traumatic event that changed it’s coarse.

Together Trace and Micah will set your heart alight the chemistry between them is intense, the sexual tension and burning desire palpable, Lynn Kelling gets this couple so right. Both men battling with the demons and ghosts of their past, the pain, hurt and inner turmoil which bubbles to the surface of their already fragile lives, and the mutual cleansing of their souls that can only be found in the arms of someone you truly love. OMG… I felt it all.

There’s so much beauty in the way Micah is able to completely surrender to Trace. The love in the submission makes it mean more than it has with anyone Trace has ever been paired with. To trust as much as Micah trusts him, with his body, heart, and mind, helps Trace feel how lucky he is rather than how burdened.

There is so much going on in this book… Lynn Kelling drops hints, subtly mentioning things without explanation, it piques your interest, makes you more aware of what’s going on, looking for further clues to piece together the lives of these damaged and broken men, a dysfunctional family borne not through birth but mutual pain, need, hurt, …a friendship so deep and intense because of the boundaries crossed and the ultimate trust placed in one another, a band of men drawn together by their need for love, be that tender romance or through the pain, humiliation or power their inner psych craves and demands.

I’m glad Lynn Kelling left Trace and Micah to book three as I feel she has at last come into her own and grown as a writer, in the past I have been a little frustrated with her writing. I have read most of her books now, so it certainly hasn't discouraged me from reading her books, but her third person POV writing style is something I sometimes find hard to get to grips with when trying to connect to the characters, and at times there has been a lot of unnecessary content that could have been cut out to keep the momentum, and I didn’t always feel she did right by her men, but in a way I suppose it shows just how connected I was to them that I got so cross about some of the decisions they made!  For me, her last book Bound by Lies, which I loved, finally saw the writer I wanted, come out to play. I feel she has grown, her writing is more polished, tighter, cleaner with less clutter and in Forgive Us she manages to create and maintain the intensity.

As with Deliver Us and From Temptation, Forgive Us is not just about the two main characters, the other men from the series are just as significant to the story line, it is a series where all the men have a starring role, it’s just that each book focuses mainly on the love aspect of the two main protagonist… so we get plenty of BDSM scenes and interaction from those that we have already grown to love. The Deliver Us series is a deviant hedonistic delight for those readers who like myself love their kinky fuckery… and believe me, this is kink with no holds barred… my depraved mind just can’t get enough!

What is evident in this series from Lynn Kelling is the overwhelming sense of responsibility these Dom’s, Trace, Gabe and Ben all have to their subs/slaves… Micah, Dare and Kyle. I like that Lynn shows the side of them that is vulnerable, their weaknesses, and how the weakness and neediness, they have all tried so hard to contain, in itself becomes a strength. Without a doubt she has captured the closeness of these men, this series is all about family, even though not through blood it doesn’t diminish the love they all have for each other and the bond they share, and in this book Forgive Us, Lynn Kelling nails it, I felt it, even Gray, Jack and Jan skirting  on the edges, seem to impress themselves on this tight knit unit.

I must admit, I was a little worried about Jack L. Pyke and Lynn Kelling crossing over their two series to create a new world, The Society of Masters, but I have to say my fears were allayed, Lynn did good… and the anticipation of them being on page had my heart racing.

Three men, all with dark hair, all with blatantly, widely different ways of carrying themselves, emerge from the Mercedes and walk up to the house. One looks like a gentleman, one a badass, one a normal guy.

Trace and Gray’s past, their obvious connection was plausible and IT WORKED and bloody hell, the heat was definitely turned up with both these formidable men on page… HOLY HOTNESS!!!  Not only did it work for them, but also the boys at Diadem, it was as though Trace had been too close, burdened and overwhelmed with trying to keep his family safe… selflessly caring for them, but always at the expense of his own happiness.

There it is, Micah thinks. Papa Trace, putting himself last so he can fill the role he’s appointed himself, and take care of everyone else first. And meanwhile, no one’s taking care of him.

Gray’s introduction was a catalyst  for all of them and a kind of peace and feeling of calm settled over me finishing this book, Lynn had done right by them and I was no longer anxious for the boys, knowing that they are now dealing with their issues, having come to terms with their limitations, character flaws and their inadvertent failings for those they love. With the help of Gray. they come to understand they don’t always need to be the strong one’s, that they undoubtedly have the love and support of their family and self made patriarch… Trace. It feels like a new beginning for all of them and lets face it, these guys are as fucked up as you will ever get!!

AND… there’s more, with a thread that suggests more to come for my boys. Trace past is threatening to catch up with him, putting those he loves in danger and with the introduction of Gray, Jack and Jan and the world that Lynn Kelling and Jack L. Pyke are currently working on, we know there is more to befall the boys of Diadem… BRING IT ON! …I’m ready!

About Lynn Kelling

Lynn Kelling began writing in order to tell stories that aren’t afraid of the dark, don’t hold anything back and always strive to be memorable, forging lasting attachments between character and reader. Her inspiration comes from taking a closer look at behaviors and ideas lurking at the fringes of life—basically anything that people may hesitate to speak of in mixed company, but everyone wonders about anyway. Her work is driven by the taboo in order to expose the humanity within it. Lynn is an artist, designer and lover of any form of creative self-expression that comes from a place of honesty and emotion, whether it’s body art or opera. She has had multiple novels published, has written over fifty works of erotic fiction of varying lengths, and always has several novels in progress.
