Synopsis

Video footage of Jack Harrison sleeping with Cutter, a man who has mutilated teenagers, should have stayed dead and buried with the man who had filmed it. Yet when footage to Jack’s past starts appearing on Internet porn sites, Jack’s whole world is again turned on its head. At first the porn links are done to unsettle, to disrupt Jack’s fire and ice world: all the sexed-up adrenaline of being caught between the pleasure to Gray Raoul's BDSM kink, and the gentleness of Jan Richards’ vanilla touch. But when the content of the porn sites force even Gray to turn his back on Jack, leaving Jack isolated and away from the full protection of the Master’s Circle, Jack is left at the mercy of a group of men who are out to alter Jack’s whole perception on his BDSM lifestyle.
As brutally as possible, Jack’s sex life is now live webcam feed for a whole new audience.

I don’t know what to say! I never thought that Don’t… could be equalled, how wrong was I? …Brilliant… truly fucking amazing!!!!

Sometimes an author comes along that blows you away, knocks the stuffing out of you and leaves you in awe. Jack L. Pyke did that to me seventeen months ago with her debut novel Don’t, and now at long last, we have the sequel to that amazing book… Antidote.

These two works of fiction are quite simply outstanding! Ingenious in their originality, and in my humble opinion, unrivalled by any other book within the genre of the dark psychological thriller, which I love! Jack L. Pyke goes to those places where you really don’t want to go, but you just can’t help yourself, the pain so unbearable it makes you cry. This series is a total mind fuck, it will turn you inside out and leave you raw with emotion… Internally and externally my emotions were a mess reading this book, the pain of these characters became my own, leaving me both physically and mentally exhausted, drained… and completely overwhelmed.

And still none of that conveys the intensity. Nor do I have the impact required or desired by me to explain the epic narrative of Antidote, and the psychological-twisted-fucked-up-evil that is played before your eyes. In all seriousness, you won’t want to read it… and yet I defy you to be able to put it down, because from the very first page you will be engrossed. Much the same as the previous book Don’t… this is compelling reading, the likes of which I have never experienced to the same depth. If you’re anything like me, you will be reading this book through a haze of tears, and at points sobbing uncontrollably because the pain from the constriction around your chest and the vice like grip on to your heart just becomes too much and it hurts… Fuck, does it HURT!!!

Jack is a character that I could just go on and on about, he has completely stolen my heart. He’s like a big kid, a puppy, full of energy and love, it emanates from him, as does his cocky hard ass attitude! He is still the broken and damaged character we met in Don’t… but we now see him more settled, he’s coping and happy, finally finding his status quo with the two men that keep him balanced. Gray is his Master and the man he has loved for eleven years, Jack needs him with every fibre of his being, he focuses Jack on all he has no control over because of his disorders. Jan gives him normal. His love is gentle, pure and innocent… as in Jan is not a sexual deviant, he is vanilla through and through, so his relationship with Jan is like a cleansing, takes him out of the darkness and into the light. Jack needs these two men like he needs air to breathe.

I love how Jack L establishes their connection as a triad and how Jack’s still pivotal within the dynamics of their relationship, we get to see the fun and frivolous side to their characters and it finally looks though it’s all just “Fucking Peachy’’  in our Jack’s world, lulling us into a false sense of security. Then Jack L goes and pulls a sucker punch to the solar plexus that will leave you reeling… it’s not like we weren’t aware that something was afoot because of the video, but holy shit… THAT!!! I was distraught!!! As if Jack doesn’t have enough demons from his past… he now has another evil fuck living in his head.

Jack is vulnerable, both emotionally and psychologically, Gray knows this and has protected him and helped him over the years… but at the hands of evil, that vulnerability, that need to be loved is a weakness that can be used against him. Without Gray or Jan to keep him tethered to reality, grounded and in normality… he is lost and alone, an empty shell, a void of nothingness and despair, inhabited by the demons of his past. Managing his psychological issues is what keeps him sane… destroy that focus and the evil madness of the world can destroy him.

Gray… is a character, who in my opinion is your typical anti hero, he has no endearing qualities… yet the moment he steps on page it’s tummy tingling time, he actually makes me catch my breath. He is a Master Dom, quietly assessing, with an air of authority which demands attention and respect, a man totally in control, enigmatic, and oh, so, droolworthy! He is also a sadist, impervious to violence, and so it seems, immune to emotion, completely unaffected… yet in Antidote we see sparks of emotion from him that floored me both in a good and bad way.

Jack became so quiet, every ounce of disorder, chaos, mouth and attitude dropped. And there was nothing more calming on the soul to lie next to. Part of me swore that the search for quiet was what drove Gray, because the moment Jack quietened, so did he.

In Lynn Kellings Forgive us we see a side to Gray that we haven’t seen before, we get a glimpse of his past with her MC Trace, and I have to say that relationship and what transpires over in America definitely heightened the Gray intensity for me. He is a man full of vision and intelligent advice, his intuition is masterful but when it comes to Jack…Bloody hell!!! Yet again Gray gets it WRONG, sometimes I think he deserves a whipping himself… don’t tell him I said that though! Stubborn pride comes into play, never truly opening up and letting in the one person, apart from Trace (Forgive Us) who had managed to pierce that steel encased heart of his. He is a master of mind fucks but where Jack is concerned he is unable to detach himself from their emotional connection and allows himself to be played.

Poor Jan… like Jack, his experiences broke me, yet despite the anguish and misery his love never wavers… he loves Jack so much. It’s not the intense sexual inferno you see with Gray, but that’s how it works for them. I marvelled at how profound that love is, totally selfless, he’s so happy to have a part of Jack, knowing that Jack loves him and needs him as much as Gray.

“I love the bones off you, Jack,” I breathed against him. “things are so fucking tough right now, you can’t stand being near me, but you remember.” I gave him a gentle kiss. “Remember I love the bones off you: mind, body, soul, every fucking inch. I always will.”

This book as with Don’t needs to be read blind… you don’t want or need to know any of the details other than what's in the blurb. It’s a turbulent ride fraught with emotion, intense subject matter and vivid imagery perfectly composed in a book for those, who like me are fictional masochists, who willingly put themselves through emotional pain and torture at the hands of an author. I physically wanted to close my eyes… not watch the scenes play out in my mind. The evil fuckers and the pain and torture was bad enough, but the mental deconstruction… that just killed me!

Once again Jack L cleverly manipulates and masterfully creates an atmosphere that will have you second guessing your own reactions, questioning the characters motivations and mentally absorbing each and every word, with no idea WTF is going on or why. Shocking the pants of you when realisation hits. There is not one thing about this book that didn’t completely captivate me…  Jack L. Pyke, through her excellent writing wraps herself around my very soul and in  Antidote we see Jack’s tentative hold on reality shattered by a mind fuck even Gray can’t fix… adrift, alone and betrayed… it’s not an easy read by any stretch of the imagination… but it is a MUST read.

Synopsis

Jack and Jan leave Gray’s manor, and Jack has the evidence there in his hands, the DVD and notepad off D.C. Sanders that proves Gray played a part in tearing him and Jan brutally apart. But with Jack locked away in his own mind and lost to his blackouts and self-harming, the past brings to light the origins of a new beast, one who only comes out to play when Jack needs to hide, a psychopath who has perhaps tasted and tested Gray to the full. All Jack has to do is remember how... and why. More to the point, why does one part of him know Gray’s signature mark as an interrogation’s officer? And why is there such a serious sadistic kick in hiding the memory?

About Jack L. Pyke

Jack blames her dark writing influences on living close to one of England’s finest forests. Having grown up hearing a history of kidnappings, murders, strange sightings, and sexual exploits her neck of the woods is renowned for, Jack takes that into her writing, having also learned that human coping strategies for intense situations can sometimes make the best of people have disastrously bad moments. Redeeming those flaws is Jack’s drive, and if that drive just happens to lead to sexual tension between two or more guys in a D/s relationship, Jack’s the first to let nature take its course.
