The Riding Master by Alexandrea Weis is about a woman who needs to find the courage to take a second chance at love once again. The journey to a happy forever may not always be easy but it is up to us to dive in with both feet. Nothing great comes without an attempt to reach out and grab it first.

Rayne Masterson is as reserved, emotionally distant and skittish as they come. After discovering that her husband was cheating on her, Rayne walked away from her marriage vowing to swear off the opposite sex forever. She is not willing to leave herself vulnerable ever again when trust never came easy to her in the first place. Her only passion is horses so she devotes her time to being an instructor at Southland Stables. When a new riding master starts at the stables, Rayne chides herself for her sudden interest in the sexy man. The last thing she needs is a complication like an arrogant lothario bursting into her life.

Trent Newbury may be a man with a reputation with the ladies but Trent has simply never found the right woman to go the distance with. When he meets Rayne at Southland Stables where he just took on the new riding master position, Trent can’t help but be intrigued by the stubborn woman determined to keep him at bay with her reserved inclinations and highly erected defenses. Rayne’s bullheaded nature and skittish ways are not enough to deter Trent. He is a man on a mission unwavering in his resoluteness to get what he wants. And, what he wants is Rayne. Can the riding master tame his latest conquest?

I loved Trent. He was simply the right amount of patient and pushy when it came to Rayne and he fully understood what she needed. For Trent, Rayne was someone worth fighting for and that’s exactly what he did. Further, this author wrote in some sexy hot and very passionate scenes that had me melting. Overall, a winning combination for me. Where this booked turned for me was the drama that ensued in the end and it all boiled down to Rayne. This book was a solid four star read for me until about the 80% mark. I truly did understand where Rayne was coming from. She was deeply hurt by the actions of her ex-husband and anyone would be hesitant to jump into another relationship. However, Trent proved over and over again that he was NOT her ex and that he was fully committed to her. Her stubbornness became too much for me. I wanted to reach into my kindle and strangle Rayne. By the end I felt like her actions were childish and idiotic. When the light finally comes on for Rayne, I no longer cared. I wanted Trent to move on and find someone deserving of his affections. I just wish Rayne would have not been so stupid when it came to the complications that arose. For me, they were not really complications in the first place which made the last 20% of the book a little anticlimactic for me.

All in all, The Riding Master was an enjoyable and easy read. Had Rayne made some different choices or perhaps not have taken so long to see how pig-headed she was being, I likely would be rating this book a little higher. Please do not let my opinion deter you from reading this book if the synopsis intrigues you. It was very well written and it will definitely not be the last book by Alexandrea Weis that I will read.
