Zero at the bone by Jane Saville

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

After witnessing a mob hit, surgeon Jack Francisco is put into protective custody to keep him safe until he can testify. A hitman known only as D is blackmailed into killing Jack, but when he tracks him down, his weary conscience won't allow him to murder an innocent man. Finding in each other an unlikely ally, Jack and D are soon on the run from shadowy enemies.
Forced to work together to survive, the two men forge a bond that ripens into unexpected passion. Jack sees the wounded soul beneath D's cold, detached exterior, and D finds in Jack the person who can help him reclaim the man he once was. As the day of Jack's testimony approaches, he and D find themselves not only fighting for their lives... but also fighting for their future. A future together.

Monique’s Quick Bite

This book by Jane Seville, is incredibly well written and has all the ingredients of an AMAZING read....action, kidnapping, courtroom drama, car chases, shoot outs, a big dose of humour and a beautifully told romance between two very unlikely characters.

We are often asked for M/M romance recommendations here at SSBR, and this book is always there on the list, it is one of my all time favourites and has withstood the test of time, one of those reads that just stays with you, and for me, that’s always the sign of something special.

There are some sex scenes in Zero at the Bone, but this is by no means my usual sex fest of read, this book is more about the building of a friendship which ultimately moves into a relationship, it’s about breaking down a life time of barriers and learning to trust. The relationship evolves amongst madness and it is both beautiful and tender in all its complexities. It’s fragile and tentative, as D lets Jack in, past those barriers, to see the tragedy and hurt that has framed this man into "D" , watching him slowly crawl out of the darkness, desperate to keep hold of Jack, the man that trusts him, and has opened his heart to what life can truly be like. I love this book!

Fearless Leader (Juxtapose City 1) by Tricia Owens

13429567

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

JC2 was created by the police to combat violence and drug crimes in the city. Lieutenant Black, an intense man whose past is a mystery but whose hatred of the drug Bliss is not, is the leader of the team. When the empath Calyx Starr is pulled from the streets and forced onto his team, Black must deal not only with Starr's seductions but a dangerous telepath who has targeted the empath and JC2.

Macky’s Quick Bite

Sex on legs Calyx Starr (Rawr!) and the gorgeous "Mr Moody" Black!! *swoon* OMG! What can I say about these two morsels of hotness? These two are NOT your typical m/m couple.. Oh no! Far from it. If you love dark, flawed, complex, tangled, sensual relationships with a huge dollop of thick, tangible sexual tension and a generous side order of kink thrown in, then you're going to love this complicated but über sexy relationship which at the moment spans two more books, with hopefully more to come. Think Blade Runner type world with a m/m twist and then add in some futuristic elite special forces, designer drugs, empaths, telepaths, corrupt police departments, sadistic chiefs of police, jealousy, violent deaths, unrequited love, dub con, secrets and lies, hidden agendas ... the dark and delicious list goes on.

It was exciting, thought provoking, gritty, raw and totally addictive. Nothing sweet about this book or series, its savoury all the way! Just like a pack of salted peanuts but with added spice.. Yum! Once you've eaten one you've got to finish the whole packet. Read this and you'll be running to get the next one… And the next… And the next... Mind you the nail biting cliffhangers might have a bit to do with that too.

Oooops! Sorry did I not mention those.... Muahahahaha!

Out of Focus by L.A. Witt

11504638

Rating ~ 4 Stars

Synopsis

He’ll bend for them. But they may break over him.
For twelve years, Dom lovers Ryan “Angel” Morgan and Dante James have run a successful photography business, and satisfied their need for a submissive with the occasional sizzling three-way. On a wedding job, they both zero in on the bride’s beautiful brother, but as professionals, they keep their attraction on the down-low—for now.
Jordan Steele has no trouble establishing mastery over his stallions. When he hires Angel and Dante to shoot promotional photos for his stable, though, there’s something about them that calls to his inner submissive. After a little flirtation and a photo session that gets almost too hot to handle, Angel and Dante are happy to show him the ropes. And the whip.
Once they break the ice, their sexual chemistry burns hotter than a macro flash. Everyone gets what they need…until emotions come into play. Their power could develop into something permanent, throw everything off balance—leaving one of them the odd man out.
Product Warnings
Contains lots of sarcasm, a double helping of steamy erotic photography, and two dominants having their way with one very enthusiastic submissive.

Tina’s Quick Bite

Successful, blissfully happy and enjoying life together, photographers Angel and Dante have the world just where they want it. From time to time they take on a sub to meet their kinky needs. They meet horse rancher Jordan, brother of the bride at a wedding they are working at and there is instant lust between all three…

This is a great book and I really liked how each chapter is written from a different point of view. The D/s dynamic is well written and the sex is hot as hell. I loved how the story shows how an established relationship can evolve and transition into something more. It's kinky hot and I really liked all three guys. Overall, I recommend this to fans of ménage, BDSM and entertaining writing. A definite page-turner and keeper.

The Telling by Eden Winters

18138621

Rating ~ 5 Stars

Synopsis

Time in Iraq cost Michael Ritter some of his hearing and a friend whose death he feels responsible for. He'd left Alabama hoping to escape a dull, small-town life, only to return four years later, lugging a duffle full of personal demons.
Cookesville, Alabama isn’t the most welcoming place on earth, particularly for a gay, Hispanic student wanting nothing more than to earn his degree and get back home to Texas. An image of a somber young man that he knows only by name and the stories told by an adoring sister comes to life when Michael returns home, just as Jay is already half-way to losing his heart.
Michael’s biggest battle lies ahead, and he’ll need all the help he can get to find his way in a world where he no longer fits in. Jay’s not sure where he fits either, but it could be next to the war-torn soldier who needs his strength.

Mark’s Quick Bite

This story struck all the right chords with me and in the right order. A heartfelt story written with great tenderness and feeling. Michael returns from Iraq to his hometown with PTSD and a kitbag full of anxieties, emotional issues and problems to overcome. At first it this seems to be an insurmountable task, but with the love, support, patience and caring from his family and newly found love he is nurtured onto the path of recovery. This is a story about healing and trying to get a life back which is possible when we have the aforementioned facts in place and then there is no stopping the HEA!

  17. I've read Tricia's Juxtapose City and it's absolutely killer. Black and Calyx are hot as blazes, but it's also great sci-fi cop action/adventure. Especially recommended if you're having Almost Human withdrawal pains.
