Synopsis

New York City Vice Detective Evan Cerelli has lost his wife, the only person he ever loved and slept with. He's trying to get on with his life, build a life for his children. Former Homicide Detective Matt Haight is a ladies’ man, all sex/no commitment. He's depressed, having a midlife crisis, and not sure where his life is headed.
The two find friendship in the bottom of a shared bottle. When the friendship turns to love, it shakes two straight men to the core and flips their lives inside out. Kids, families, careers that are not gay-friendly -- can all the love in the world overcome the obstacles to faith and fidelity?

Tina’s Quick Bite

I’m pretty sure that Evan and Matt’s story is the best gay-for-you book I've ever read, I was hooked from the first page. The wonderfully written story made me cry and laugh, broke my heart and put it back together again. It’s very lovely to see how a deep friendship unexpectedly can grow into something new, exciting, yet frightening at the same time.

Tere Michaels takes us through the struggle of two men who simply know they are in love with each other but have to adapt to the change in identity, learn to be together as a couple and as a family unit. Both men are shocked by their feelings as neither has ever felt this for another man before.

If you’re looking for a m/m story that’s more than just an erotic tale, this is the book for you. I can't recommend it enough for the amazing romance between these two men and the depth of emotion it will pull from you.

Note: Faith & Fidelity is the first book of the Faith, Love, & Devotion series.

Synopsis

Fallon Roxbury has a nose for trouble, and the uncanny ability for landing in the middle of it the moment he finds it. While investigating the gruesome murder of a young male prostitute in the red-light district, Fallon gets a whiff of something strange. Forensics has unidentified hairs. Very unidentified hairs, like nothing in any of the textbooks. Following a tip from a person of interest, Fallon meets Sundown, an apparent hustler who apparently knows a lot more than he will admit.
Getting personally involved with Sundown breaks every rule in the police manual, and in Fallon’s own personal code. But Sundown is like a drug, and Fallon can’t stop at taking only one hit. Yet when Sundown is forced to reveal the truth about the murder, Fallon’s world is turned upside down, and he’s left with only two options—check himself in for psychiatric evaluation, or accept a new reality with a strange shift.
Shapeshifters, that is...

Macky’s Quick Bite

This is the first of a series that I discovered in passing and its a completely different spin on the world of Shifters. Novella length but well fleshed out, I loved it, it took me by surprise in the best way, because to be honest I never expected it to be as engaging as it was and half way through I went back and bought the other two books in the series so I could carry on reading the trilogy back to back. Starting out as a murder mystery, everything about this paranormal underworld felt fresh and new and I found it all intriguing and different!

The MC's became favourites too... Fallon the cop is laid back and witty, his partner Juny is a perfect sidekick for him (a well fleshed out supporting character) and the two of them bounce of each other whilst still always being there for each other but the character who fascinated me the most was the sexy hustler Sundown who blasts into Fallons life during the course of the investigation. Beautiful, mysterious and extremely sensual, he was a breath of fresh air and the chemistry between him and Fallon was delicious. Discovering his "secret" over the course of the series, watching their love story grow and the world building just got better and better as the books progressed. The writing style ticked all my boxes, it was dry witted and laconic in its humour but passionate and compelling in its ongoing storyline. As for the twist on the shifter world... lets just say I would never have guessed it in the world of man...but I guess this isn't the world of man, is it!

Synopsis

I can’t describe what it’s like to want to scream every minute of every day.
Two years after a terrifying night of pain destroyed his normal teenage existence, Aaron Downing still clings to the hope that one day, he will be a fully functional human being. But his life remains a constant string of nightmares, flashbacks, and fear. When, in his very first semester of college, he’s assigned Spencer Thomas as a partner for his programming project, Aaron decides that maybe “normal” is overrated. If he could just learn to control his fear, that could be enough for him to find his footing again.
With his parents’ talk of institutionalizing him—of sacrificing him for the sake of his brothers’ stability—Aaron becomes desperate to find a way to cope with his psychological damage or even fake normalcy. Can his new shrink control his own demons long enough to treat Aaron, or will he only deepen the damage?
Desperate to understand his attraction for Spencer, Aaron holds on to his sanity with both hands as it threatens to spin out of control.

Monique’s Quick Bite

This is one of the most emotional and heartbreakingly beautiful books I have ever read! Quite simply it’s Outstanding!... and remains as one of my ALL TIME favourites.

I am not sure I can even begin to explain or even do justice to the words of Ms. JP Barnaby! This book touched my heart in so many ways. Being in the mind of Aaron, his soul so utterly and completely shattered was devastating! but the heart-warming journey for his chance at 'normal' and the two families involved, who themselves were stretched to breaking point was poignant in it delivery.

People who know me, will be aware of how much I love my smut...but most of all I love books that make me 'feel' a book that has me so engrossed and invested in the characters that I am part of their lives. This is an erotic romance, but not between our two MC's, they are merely fledglings, taking baby steps in an emotionally complicated relationship, that is so beautiful in its delivery, I found myself in tears through the most part, my heart both assaulted and warmed by the numerous emotions this book evoked.

I wanted to feature Aaron this week, because of the release of sequel to Aaron and Spencer’s Story… Spencer last week, which yet again is another OUTSTANDING novel from JP Barnaby… this woman can do no wrong in my eyes!

Don’t forget to check back Thursday when we have JP Barnaby with us here at SSBR and my Review of Spencer.

So …Do I recommend this book? ...HELL YES! Just read it!

Synopsis

After an eventful and sometimes uncomfortably public courtship, Simon Murray and Declan Tyler settled into a comfortable life together. Now retired from the AFL, Declan works as a football commentator; Simon develops programs with queer content for a community television station.
Despite their public professional lives, Simon and Declan manage to keep their private life out of the spotlight. Their major concerns revolve around supporting their friends through infertility and relationship problems—until Greg Heyward, Declan’s ex-partner, outs himself in a transparent bid for attention.
Though Simon and Declan are furious with Greg and his media antics, they can’t agree on what to do about it. Declan insists they should maintain a dignified silence, but both he and Simon keep getting drawn into Heyward’s games. Simon and Declan will once again have to ride out the media storm before they can return their attention to what really matters: each other.

Mark’s Quick Bite

As I featured Tigers and Devils in the M/M Quick Bites Post the week before last. Then I decided to feature #2 in the series this time.

This sequel to Tigers and Devils was by no means inferior to the first book. If anything it really did add to and augment the first book admirably. The comments I made in the first book are still applicable here, but it was good to see Simon and Dec settled in their relationship. Still with a few communication problems, but hey, which relationship doesn't suffer from that at times.

In this book I found Simon's comments even pithier, filled with the usual Garfield like cynicism and self-depreciating humour with slight 'drama Queen' tendencies that I have come to love. The book gave me that silly grin again on every page combined with snorts of laughter which can be especially embarrassing when you're on the train going to work!
