Our Book of the Year 2013
Choosing only one book from the amazing experiences I have had in 2013 through the pages of a book is nigh on impossible! Every one of my favourite reads are just that, because for many different reasons they have touched a place in my heart… made me feel and fall in love, that heady experience that we all know and love, that authors through their immense talent, enable us to relive time and time again. The biggest part for me, I suppose is falling in love with the characters, and that is the reason I have chosen Catch a Ghost by SE Jakes… not only is she an extremely talented author but she creates characters that I love, her story lines and world building have completely enthralled me, full of intrigue with all action alpha hero’s… I couldn’t ask for more… and this year I fell head over heels in love with Prophet and Tommy… and long may the love affair continue.
Seriously a tough question, with so many fantastic reads from 2013 it really is next to impossible to choose. However, if pushed the book that really sticks in my mind is Memorizing You by Dan Skinner, so I have to concur with Tina on this. The writing was beautiful, the characters were all brought to life and the emotions behind the words were astounding. I was crying rivers of bitter sweet tears at the end of the book. It stayed with me and haunted me for days after. This book taught me once again that life is seriously short and it's not often you get second chances either, but when you do you should never let them go. So for all of you out there with this book on your TBR, then do yourselves a favour and bump it up to the top of the list.
Picking the best book of 2013 for me is a really hard one because so many could fit the bill. I think every time I rated a book 5 stars, it became my ' fave' until the next came along, but if I HAVE to pick the one that stayed with me the longest after I'd read it then it has to be King Mai by Edmond Manning because it touched me in ways I'd never felt before and blew me away with its inventiveness and depth of emotion. Edmonds voice is truly unique and so is his concept of the lost kings. An amazing book amongst many, many others!
It’s hard to put into a few words what I feel about it. Memorizing You is about first, young love and forgiveness. It's about being strong and never giving up in what you have found in another human being. About dreaming of a better, more caring and loving world. It's about love, respect and commitment regardless of gender. It's about secrets and loss. Especially the beautiful sadness grabbed me and I learned something vital. That happiness is a gift, and we should take it a day at a time. It’s a sublime, poetic and intense story, definitely my favorite read 2013.
