Synopsis

The truth will set you free.
Mark Sayre joins the Interstellar Navy for the money—his only goal is to keep his little brother out of the colony mines that sent their father to an early grave. With concepts like duty and honor floating high over his head, he hardly expects to fall for the serious, idealistic Shane Cawley. Not to mention that Shane is his commanding officer . . . and his Resonance partner, a one-in-ten-thousand mental connection so profound that they can travel in each other’s mindscapes.
Shane Cawley is carrying on the family tradition by serving in the Interstellar Navy. He hardly expects to fall for the quirky, happy-go-lucky Mark Sayre. But as the Resonance between them grows, neither can deny what he feels for the other.
When war breaks out, Mark and Shane find their military training and their Resonance link tested to the edge of sanity. Shane is haunted by memories and flashbacks, and Mark becomes trapped in his own mindscape. But with help from an unlikely ally, they may be able to salvage their futures and the love they share

Interview with Tal Valante

Hello and welcome to the online tour of Mindscape! Thank you for joining me here on the seventh stop, and thank you to Sinfully Sexy Book Reviews for having me.

My giveaway is almost over! Here’s your chance to enter. I’m raffling off three $10 Amazon.com gift certificates at the end of this tour. For a chance to win, simply comment on this post with an answer to the following question: other than telepathy, what special power would you like to have? Winners will be picked randomly from all tour stops, and will be announced on 12/29. Drop me a comment at each stop to increase your chances of winning!

In case you were wondering about me, here’s a little interview with some fun details:

What’s a typical day like for you?

I’m somewhat of a night owl, so I usually get up pretty late (around 9-10 AM). My schedule is usually taken up by programming projects and site building, which I do in front of my computer. Well, most everything I do is in front of my computer—I even eat breakfast there (while poring over some fanfic or another).

Sometimes, when I’m not in the mood to spend the day at home, I pack up my “mobile office” bag and head out to Jerusalem Center, where I find a quiet cafĂ© and sit down for a good working session. You have no idea the number of stares I received for sitting over a cup of diet coke for three hours!

In my free time I enjoy listening to music, playing video games, and doing puzzles. I also love spending time with my cat, but I can’t guarantee she enjoys it as much as I do.

There’s nothing like having a friend over for dinner or else going out with a friend to the local pool joint. We love making those balls jump in all unlikely directions!

Then it’s nighttime, which means more work for me, because I need to catch up with my USA-based clients. I’ll often stay up as late as 2-3 AM. Then off to bed... and repeat. :)

What’s your favorite quote?

Can I quote an entire poem? Sure I can, I’m the one writing the answers! Anyway, my favorite quote would be the entire “A Psalm of Life” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. There’s something so vital and cheerful in that poem. It always reminds me to chin up and celebrate each day. Well, on days when I remember to contemplate it.

Did you sell the first book you wrote?

Oh, dear, no. It was an epic fantasy novel and I was fourteen. And deeply in love with the main character. Who was a half-wolf/half-man. It was a raw piece of writing and had the subtlety and complexity of a three-legged cow in a china shop. (Hey, I was fourteen.)

Which one of your characters would you date?

Oh, gods, this is embarrassing. Remember the half-wolf/half-man from the previous question? Ah-ha. He’s the one. (Oh, come on. Ridiculously noble and good of heart, tall, handsome, secretive, aloof, hurting, infinitely talented... What more can you ask for in a guy?)

Superman or Batman?

Definitely, definitely Batman. Dark, handsome, hurting (hey, that sounds familiar), exquisitely in control of his human body, and just... ravish-worthy. Ahem. I looked up to him as a role model for the better part of my childhood, and even later on. Why can’t we have more Bruce Waynes in our world?

Thank you for following me (ooooh, stalkers!), and don’t forget to post your answers below!

About the Author

Tal's passion in life is building worlds, whether digital ones using programming languages, or literary ones using plain ol' English. When she's not buried neck-deep in code, you can find her editing manuscripts, designing fantasy worlds, or torturing characters in her own original works.
You can get Tal going forever on her favorite subjects with a few well-placed words, such as "Babylon 5" and "Assassin's Creed." A word of caution, though: "forever" means just that . . .
